32-bit vista w/ SP1 + 8500 GT + upgrade= crash at menu screen

The title says it all mostly. Crash at menu, cant even change a setting. Tried a number of Nvidia drivers to no avail including the most recent. Have an awesome Intel mobo and 8400 dual core. Even tried running as an XP app. I have been reading forums constantly for hours and have tried 3 installs, 1 of those downloaded from Impulse. Seems to be a software issue. Even worse since the game is opened I can't return it. Hours of time and effort have been wasted and I haven't even made it through a tutorial.

Did you upgrade the MoBo and CPU? And do other games still work?

 

Sounds a lot like me trying to figure out what was wrong with my new computer when I tried to use a PCI-E 2.0 graphics card on a PCI-E 1.1 MoBo.
