Penalty Points

I think the whole concept of penalty points for non-Vista icon themes is unfair. Unless it was part of the original rules they should have had separate categories for XP and Vista icons. Vista is dead and will soon be replaced by Windows 7. I saw a lot of wonderful icon packages that effectively will be disqualified from winning because they don't include Vista support and that is VERY unfortunate.

All due respect.. I think it is unfortunate that they didn't include Vista support in th icon sets.

Many skinners did Vista skins without having Vista. Some of the XP packs where very short on icons. Just enough to qualify. That almost makes them unusable to even XP users. What kind of harmony is in 1/2 black icons and the rest default? This is a contest to bring your best game.

Some of the best work I have ever seen is in this contest. The icons are so hard to choose from. Every single detail needs to be criticized or praised in order to make a decision. 1 judge out of 3 is using Vista suport as a tool. The other judges might not.

Is it the term "penalty points" that bothers you? If he had said, points added for Vista support, would that have sounded better? :)

It was made very clear in the forums leading up to the contest that lack of support in different areas would lead to a skin losing a certain % of its value as it related to other more complete skins. Makes perfect snse to me.

If u skin 100%, approach it with pride, bring your A game, submit in a timely manner then as a skinner there is nothing more you can do.

One cannot expect to win by submitting an incomplete skin, even if quality wise, it may be better.

and besides, you should leave it up to the artists to raise concerns about the judging. Otherwise you are tarnishing a decent contest and they may not want to be part of the controversy.

Look at how professionally presented all the icon packs were. People knew what they were doing. They just didn't have Vista. A shortcoming on their behalf.

Referring to reply #3, I didn't realize that it WAS in the rules so I apologize if I offended anybody. 2 years from now we'll be having this discussion about icons for Windows 7
