DS and DualMonitor

Waiting for the release for DS on XP, which should be soon.

Some questions with DS ahead:

1. How does it work with Dualscreen?

2. Does it stretch over both monitors?

3. Can i run 1 DS on each Monitor. or DS on Mon1, wallpaper on Mon2?

4. Any problems with Ultramon? I run Ultramon as my Dual Monitor manager.

5. Or it doesnt work at all, and i dont need to bother install because i will only have a big crash :(

These answers are based on VISTA DeskScape 2.0 use.  Everything might change with this new version (hope, hope).

1)  Mirrors the video playing on your primary to your secondary monitor.

2)  Not on Vista, but if you were using dualview/spanned in XP I would think it wouldn't stretch but you MIGHT be able to play a double-wide video if you created one.

3)  Nope.  Nope.  Nope.  Not on Vista you can't.  Would suspect XP is the same.

4)  No problems (I run it too), but, of course, the wallpaper manager will be useless since you'll have live video as wallpaper.

5)  I believe it will work, just not will all the things we dual+ monitor users would like to see.

Let us know how it works for you!

Note that this new dream seems to say that there is some multiple monitor support on XP for the new DS v2.5.

And this thread confirms it.  It doesn't give us details what we can and cannot do, so it might only be for dynamic dreams support.

I should point out that for technical reasons the video will only play on the primary monitor on XP with Deskscapes 2.5.

Dynamic dreams will work on additional monitors IF the dream has been updated for XP support.

Currently updated dreams are Ovals, Expanding Shapes, Winter Snow and Photo dream.

Thanks for the clarifications, Neil!

:( Am a little bit disappointed. All the dual monitor Dreams have to be extra purchased. Not used to that by stardock. At least one could have been shipped with DS. Specially when u have OD Ultimate.

The ones included with Deskscapes should be updated in the future.

The ovals dream is free though and does support multiple monitors on XP.

first, sorry for my little-bad english, i use it not so often, so that i have not the best expierence with it ;-)

This are my Specs ..

Ultimate 64Bit
Quadcore 2.83 Ghz / 6 GB RAM
GTX 280 with one Monitor attached (middle one)
GT 9500 with 2 Monitors attached (left and right one)

So, when i download the free Version 1.02, this will not work, unless i disattach 2 monitors (in fact disattach the 9500 GT) .... but, when i download the 2.0 free version, it will work, when i give the flag "use internal player" ... then i think, oh its greate, the i purchase the hole package (ultimate desktop) and make my day ...

BUT .. the final version that i have buy for 69$ is version 2.5 and doesnt support this "use internal player" ... how can i become this back? I'm not happy to pay 69$ for another product, that this one that is free to evaluate ...

Thanks for helping ...

2.5 should have the same use internal player option as 2.0

I have heard reports that there may be an install issue on 64 bit Vista which is stopping the internal player from working.  If this is the case we should be able to sort this early next week.

Thanks for answering...

But i think you have not understand me, the checkbox is not there to activate it. Is this the same reason that you have explain in your post (64bit issue)?

Good morning. I appreciate your initial post. Was it ever discovered if Deskscapes for XP would allow for dual monitors? I haven't seen any update on this on any of the forums. Whenever I run a dream, the main monitor shows the dream but the second monitor is black. Thanks for any help you can give
