Need help installing Impulse please!

I play GC2 only once every couple of months, and it's about time for my current game.  So I check the website for latest info and patches, and learn that we're now up to a snazzy 2.0 to go with GC2/DA/TotA, all of which I own.  Okay, so I come to learn that the 2.0 update is not available from a Stardock download, or from any internet download.  Just an aside here Stardock, you're blazing a new trail in customer friendliness by making your updates ONLY available through some new download system that your longtime fans don't have.  That trail you're blazing, it's not going in a good direction.

Okay, so I resign myself to downloading Impulse, but I can't get it to install.  I get two popups.  The first reads as follows:

Unable to download installer files - Error IMPD01-300

The Impulse setup program is unable to download updated files from the Internet to complete the installation process.  Please check your Internet connection and firewall settings and retry setup.  The Impulse installation will now exit.  Note: You can also visit www.ImpulseDriven.com to download an updated version of the Impulse setup program.

The second pop-up is almost identical to the first, except that it starts off by saying: Unable to download installer files - Error IMPD02-300.

My internet connection is obviously fine, hence my ability to post this.  I have the basic XP firewall, which I tried disabling, no luck.  I tried shutting down various aspects of my virus scanner (something I DON'T like doing.)  Look, I've downloaded, installed, and patched a gazillion files, games, and videos on my computer.  I just patched Fallout 3 the other day.  I watch videos on Netflix.  My internet connection is not causing me a problem, nor is my firewall.

As for visiting impulsedriven.com to download an updated version of the Impulse setup program, I thought that's what I had just done.  I don't see any link of note on that site except the big blue "Download Impulse Now!" button.

I'm a plug-and-play sorta guy.  I like to come home from work, click a button, and play my game of choice.  Please let me do that.

If this should go in the Impulse forums, please let me know and I'll cut/paste it there.  I posted it here because I frankly don't even know anything about Impulse or want Impulse except for my need to download it to play my game of choice of the day.  I posted here because, unlike Impulse, GalCiv 2 made a good first impression on me...sorry for the rant, obviously things like this tick me off a bit...

Dont feel bad. I found out about this from ATI.com and wanted to have it cause of the games. I go to download it and run it, got the SAME problem as you. It wont let me do anything. Well isnt that nice huh...Someone has to fix something cause it isnt on my end either! At ALL.  I'll be checking back here for the next few days and see whats up. If this isnt resolved then i'm not going to bother with it. I have other games to play, I dont HAVE to have this, it would had just been nice to have some more options. My FAVORITE game to play is called City of Heroes. Everyone really needs to check that game out! I have been playing that for 4 1/2 years now, it is a GREAT game and you wouldnt belive how customizable it is!

Okay, so for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that McAfee is causing my problem.  Honestly, now the problem is that I can't seem to turn off McAfee...

In my AccessProtectionLog I have the following messages appearing every time I try unsuccessfully to install Impulse:

11/18/2008 6:54:26 PM Would be blocked by Access Protection rule  (rule is currently not enforced)  JACKASS1\Peter Mueller C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\Peter Mueller\Local Settings\Temp\mia1E6.tmp\Impulse_setup.exe Common Standard Protection:Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp folder Action blocked : Execute

I don't know what all that means.  I went to the temp folder referenced, and there's the Impulse files.  Okay, so I guess that "Prevent common programs from running files from the Temp folder Action blocked" bit means something about all that?  This version of McAfee is relatively new, just downloaded maybe 1-2 months ago.  It hasn't caused me any problems in the past.  It literally won't let me turn it off, as far as I can tell, which...yeah...that's unusual.  Lots and lots of settings I can click on and off, and I messed with them earlier to no success.  So presumably there's some setting, somewhere, in McAfee, that will let me install this thing...

If the web installer isn't working for whatever reason, try the full install package.
