Funniest Fear Ever...

Or at least the name of it

This will probably be my laziest blog but I found this too entertaining. While scanning around Yahoo it mentioned something about Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. This not so coincidentally, is the word that describes the fear of long words. If it's not funny, whoever named it is at least, cruel.

Brilliant!

I'm fairly sure I've heard of this before but damned if I can remember the word!

I reckon it's up there with Gary Larson's (totally made up) Lookaduckaphobia - the fear that somehow, somewhere, as duck is watching you

Oh no, I think that is real. Every day I find myself looking over my shoulder. Wondering, waiting, watching. *shudder*

Funny little find suspeckted. Thanks for sharing.

Ha ha! I actually have a totally irrational fear of ducks, so perhaps I suffer from this always. Maybe that's why I can always remember the name of the phobia...

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia

Not to be (too much of) a spelling nazi, but there's only 5 P's in that, not 6.

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia.

Well I just cut and pasted that from yahoo so maybe there are multiple spellings...and that was pretty spelling naziesque to me............Geebus! I mean come on, what's the word for fear of letting irrelevant spelling errors go without pointing them out?

Ha Ha,

It's more of an obsessive linguaphilia than any sort of phobia, really....

and to TW.

If I were a smart man, and I plan on becoming one soon, I would imagine that it meant a fear of hippopotomusses or hippopotomai, or whatever... (Citahellion? )

those big african beasts are quit scary you know... way scarier than ducks, which happen to be my second favorite animal. I don't know if you are joking or not Flloze, but my mate really is scared of ducks because one chased him... he is also scared of cows as well, he is just a big sook in general... anywho - YAY DUCKS!

Thanks for sharing dude

Wait a minute muggy, what's a "sook?"

Saying it with an australian accent... it sounds like "suck"

Sook = cry baby

Nice! My slang vocab expands, I think I will definitely start using that since I can probably say it to grade school kids without them knowing what I'm talking about. I've also began to substitute "ish" for "shit" since when a lot of rap is edited they simply throw the cursing in reverse and shit backwards sounds a lot like "ish."

Ex. "ahh man, look at all the ish I have to do today."

Thanks mugz,
