Arguement for Terror Stars

So, my latest game has been quite a epic one.  It a gigantic map with either few or uncommon habitable planets.  After many years and many bloody battles it came down to just 4 races, mine being in second place.  My military is pretty huge, the largest infact and there wasnt really any techs I havnt researched that I thought would really benifit me that much, since my economy was booming, my science was pretty decent and really no one can stand in my way besides the Altarians, who is really the only threat but we have been big buddies so far.  With the war with the iconians and the kryn raging on, and my weapons/fleets being far superior to theres I decided to say, aww why not, lets research terror stars.  Conviently I also had the creativity bonus.  I think it ended up being around 50 turns and I was ready to made terror stars.  Now, the arguement.

I find this to be a great late game unit, especialy since you can use them again and again after each use.  Sure, they are slower than molasses, but I have had great fun so far in blowing up systems.  And you can also put them in fleets, (I have ultimate logistics btw, so they get the proper defenses for something so slow and costly.)  The only downside I have had so far was the first time i blew up the star I didnt move the rest of the fleet out of the system, which didnt matter since I had plents of other fleets around.

But the reason why I think there great is that I dont have to keep making troop transports, as long as I have the ships to defend them.  And I dont have to destroy any defenses to destroy the star.

And the in flight combat view looks bad ass with a TS in your fleet.  Those things make Gigantic hulls look like ants.

well yeah I guess terror stars could save you from some micromanagement issues in the very late game when some win conditions are disabled

They're worthless piles of shiny crap.   For all the trouble they must have gone through to add them back into the game, they are so nerfed it's pathetic.

Let's see:

You have to research them, which is very very expensive and time consuming.

You have to build them.  (no big getting 6 or so constructors)

You then have to wait 10 freaking turns to do anything?  This is what bugged the $$$$ out of me.

Then you blow up the system.  Cool.

Then you have to spend ~15 turns to get to another system.  Again, retarded.

For all that effort, it is ALWAYS easier to just build transports and take the system.  For terror stars to be of any real value this is the variable that has to change.  There has to be a reason why a terror star is really better.   Perhaps if you have a horrible soldiering race it might work, but then you could just core detonate right?

To me the better way would have been to allow you to design them, and build them like normal ships, but put a speed limit on them of say 4.  (then with bonuses they'd go like 8)   Then make the attack take 1 full turn. (you have to have full moves to attack, and then your done.)

Anyway, like 90% of this game TS's were balanced for playing tiny or small maps.  So I suppose if that's the style you play they might have a little more use.

Also, avoiding the enemy ships is a non-arguement.   If the AI had any brains it would de-orbit and attack.  Also the AI doesn't build good ships anyway, so they're not a problem either way.

I thoroughly enjoy terror stars. It's more of a vindictive, rp point of view though. I don't care about metaverse anything (or any other online achievement electronic-manhood enhancers for that matter). They're fun to me, so I don't care that I could be doing something "non retarded". They're inefficient in every way possible, but they're fun.

The '68 stingray in my garage that I'm restoring is a horrible excuse for a car. It's fun, but that's all it's got compared to what I should be looking for in a vehicle. I'll note I'm a big fan of irl manhood enhancers. B)

Me, i find them too slow to be fun. Removing the startup period would make them better.. Oh and does AI make them ever? I've never seen it to make one, nor research the techs.

IMO it's a good thing the AI doesn't research this

while it's fun, its inefficiency would condemn the AI to a painful death
