Problems Registering to Ironclad Online

I am not sure how to word this so I am just going to come out and say it. I have recently tried to register to Ironclad Online with my SINS copy so that I can actually play online games, whenever I try to create an account it seems to freeze up once I click accept. A minute or two later it comes up and says that I have disconnected from the server.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sounds like a firewall program is blocking/asking for permission in the "background".  Can you alt-tab when it seems to "freeze" and see if a firewall is asking for permission to let SINS out?

If you can't Alt-tab once the program "freezes", please try running the game in "windowed mode" untill you set the firewall permissions.

thanks,

I did what you suggested and there isn't a firewall popup present. I tried several times to be sure and it doesn't look like Vista is asking for permission.

Any other suggestions? XD

Edit: I noticed something else while playing with it. I had my friend create a LAN game and whenever I try and join it,  the game says I have disconnected from the server. Not sure if they will affect any advice given, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Are you on a university network? If so, they might be blocking the ports sins uses altogether.

Actually, I am. If that is the case I will have to take my laptop to the school computer department. Is there a way I could get around the school's firewall without having to go through the maintenance department?

Thanks for all the help, hopefully with all the imput I will be able fix this problem!

Well, the 1.1 patch that's coming out soon should actually take care of this since it comes with tunneling technology that should bypass router settings so (in theory) it should also allow you to play through your Uni firewall. That's a lot of 'should's, but I don't think anyone's actually posted that it works fine through uni firewalls, we know it successfully bypasses the need for router port forwarding, so that's a good sign :P But I do wonder if it kicks in for connection to ICO itself, or only game hosting..

You can try out the beta patch if you want to test it, before you take any more drastic measures like threatening your university's IT department with a smelly broom ;)

To try out the beta patch, make sure Sins is registered on Impulse, and select "Show pre-release versions" in the blue orb menu for Impulse to make the patch show up.

Okay! Thanks! I shall!!

But smelly brooms always get the IT department's butts in gear.. -sighs and puts it away- Fiiine, I will try the beta patch.

Thanks again!

The feature is called Alloy, I'm not sure if it's on by default but I believe you can toggle it in the options somewhere :) Good luck, I hope it works - and definitely post back if it does!
