Resetting to default settings?

I'm afraid I #$@%ed up a bit too many various settings in the game. Is there a way to reset all the settings to default (short of uninstalling and reinstalling). The game isn't actually broken, but I've recently changed a lot about my playstyle and it's easier to just reset all the related stuff and set it to what I want now than mess with it more and do god knows what.

One in particular is the racial ship designs/colors/starting abilities. Those have gone all over the place (militaristic Altarians FTW!).

In this case, deleting the custom file in the my documents/my games...etc folder for the version you are playing for the Alterians would reset them to their defaults.  Other in-game options like video/interface and such....I'm not sure of.

Those are stored in the prefs.ini file in same location.

And once you have returned to this 'default' status by detecting the whole number of files & settings... it may be a good idea to create a new folder named *Backups* and maintain a set of these precious files to revert back to _clean settings_ if you should ever need to again. :D

You may also want to try the self_archiving (if you have those, btw) install files made upon first SD downloads... everything is there for you to inspect and/or decide to switch over. The normal SDC files are indirect zips (through re-naming) while some files contained in these have the usual extension '.xx_' underlining trick of good'ol dossy extract processing.

I find it pretty useful to have such backing stuff for ships & templates too, btw. Cuz, it's a simple matter of copy_paste to re-create some tedious work on those fleet by a simple process rather than having to do these designs once_twice_three times again & again. Even tricky editing (but appropriate) of some files can ease many pains.
