Multiplayer in this game is terrible

How can a game sell so well and have so few people playing it online?

And furthermore, how can a game supposedly known for its "more mature" online community be comprised of nothing but dudes who stack the teams and insist on playing that way?

Smurfing is a fact of life with these games, but players with 100+ wins are clearly experienced, and stacking them on the same team and then insisting "it's balanced" ruins the experience for everyone.

In my last game, the other team had a combined 200+ more wins on their records than we did, and two of our teammates left within the first 10 minutes of the game, but the host kept insisting we stick around. Am I supposed to sit there and take a guaranteed whooping because of disconnecters and team-stackers? Isn't an uncertain outcome the point of playing a game with other people?

So far I've had a grand total of one game that was played out without horrible imbalance or people leaving within the opening minutes.

This type of stuff kills an online community. Just ask EA.

Honestly, sounds like the multiplayer-contingent of every game community these days.....:\

You should play with my group(all family), but expect games that take a couple of sessions to play.

I completely Agree with planetary. The people who play this game online. Are either So experienced they win every game or they have no experience at all. AND the stacking thing is soooo true. Good post Good for a good talk.

You might consider requesting that the teams be balanced before the games start or even trying to join noobs-only games.  If you don't like the teams and the people won't even it up then don't "click in" (green check box) and duck out before the game starts and hope for another game to roll around.

Of course, your best defense is to become a good player yourself.  Read the Strategy forums and watch replays, paying close attention to the good players.

I suggest that you figure out how to configure your router so that you can host and then, as host, you can set the terms for the game, kicking out people who won't switch teams to balance them or setting up games titled "3v3 noobs only", etc.

Whats exactly stopping you from not joining a stacked game? I think those two teammates who left atleast saw the sense and gave the stacked team exactly what they deserved- a game against AI players . You should have just quit the game.

Not all games are stacked. Eventually you can kinda sniff out those that are..

Heres some tips I use..

Those 8 player games with have 4/8 or 6player with 3/6 . Watch them. If it remains open for awhile and those 4 sit together throughout then its probably a stacked game where they are waiting for 4 unsuspecting randoms and will keep the game open for longer then usual because the host really wants to play with his 3 pre-arranged partners.

If you find the top few players chatting as if they know each other well , thats a big sign.

In many stacked games, it feels as if the top 4 players are ALL hosts. Forexample , the second player will ask you to sort your teams out , or the third player will conducting the rules or telling people to ready up.

The biggest tip is to simply ask if you can join the best player and tell them your a newb and it would probably be good for balance. If they boot you then that just saves you from pressing the leave button.

Watch out for Ginius / badmofo  (ahahahaha)

Read the name of the game. If it says "skilled only" then BEWARE. It might not be pre-arranged but often what happens is that if the host is satisfied that his side has enough skilled only , hes not fussed with having one or two noobs on the other side to fill up the game.

Simply ask the host if its stacked. Some will probably say yea. Sometimes expierenced people are just fed up with partnering noobs and just want an easy win for a quick rush. They dont want balance whiners to join , they just want 4 players who dont care and just want to play. Just leave the game.

Thats from the top of my head , but with those in mind , Ive avoided stacked teams quite well.

You forget one other thing Planetary. Some people have been playing online for awhile. They have friends. Some of those friends might even have multiple names (e.g. the DT guys depending on if they are in clan or individual mode). these people like to play together for a number of reasons, not all of which are getting a win. Here are some I can think of in 30 seconds:

1) They know they don't quit

2) They know they don't swear, bitch, moan or insult and are even courteous - e.g. do you want the planet or do I take it???

3) They know the person doesn't lag the game out

4) They know they won't do something stupid like try to go RA when flanked by two enemies

5) They have a SOCIAL experience, playing with people they know online. I like to play with a friend or two if possible as that means the game is a little bit more social for me

Regarding the [DT] crew, note that they would prefer to play against opponents with a similar level of skill but if good players aren't around they'll try to set up numerically imbalanced games, like 3 [DT] vs. 5 general players, etc.

I know they do - but they still get drunk and do silly things for giggles... The thing you have to remember with MP in Sins is that quote from The Phantom Menace

"There's always a bigger fish."
