A bit of Espionage, anyone?

Okay, im playing a map with 3 Star systems and over 50 planets.

In my Solar system ther were 4 factions, and i managed to wipe out one so far but now the Solar system is divided between me and the other 2 factions with whom i have a uneasy ceasefire, and lukewarm trade agreements with the other.

Now my point is, at this stage i dont want to move against any side directly because it would upset the triumvirate and balance of power and leave me open to attack from the other side.

Now as im a fairly newbie, my question is.... is there any Espionage or Spies i can employ to try some underhand tactics against the enemy (such as sabotaging their buildings or causing a uprising on their planets) ? I have started building Propaganda stations, but i need more direct involvement in my competitors affairs.

If this does not exist, it would be great for a Expansion pack. I mean how cool would it be to sabotage the enemies Capitol Ship or Steal some of their Funds, or use a Spy to cause a uprising on  a planet... the possiblities are endless guys! :digichet:

Unfortunately, espionage does not exist in the current Sins diplomacy system. But fear not, many good suggestions for how to implement it have been written up and read over by IC even since the beta days. One of the micro expansion packs is planned to include new diplomacy features, so we can only hope :)

Believe me, I share your enthusiasm for espionage! (I wrote several of those suggestions myself over the course of testing, and after :P)

Excellent :) Im looking forward too it and im even more glad others have brought it up!

I really think they hit the gameplay, navigation, graphics and balance nails on the head.

But adding advanced Diplomacy and Espionage features will give it that extra spice which is what retains loyal gamers ;)

The closest thing we have to an uprising other than overpowering cultural influence is the TEC's Insurgency. Once researched, opposing empires will periodically suffer raids from ships resembling the planetary militia ships that are found around neutral planets at the start. These ships belong to the "Rebels" faction and will attack anyone, including yourself.  Insurgency has 2 levels, the second level having more severe raids (either larger forces or generally more Heavy Cruisers). Ships are the same five that militias can have (Cobalt, Garda, Javelis, Krosov, Kodiak), and appear directly in the gravity well of the planet. There are even cases where the AI doesn't respond quickly enough and ends up losing a planet to the Rebels (though this doesn't happen too frequently).

Insurgency, however, is a Tier 8 Civilian Tech, which has maximum culture research as a prerequisite.

of course in the situation the op described, pirates may be of some use provided the enemy empires are so strong as to completely smash down a pirate attack anyway. the bounty could be used also to incite the other player to attack, thus creating a 2 on 1 situation for you.

other than that: new diplomacy features will come! like like.
