Planet city lights question

After looking at the Federation and Empire mod, I decided that I would make some planet textures for the Hydrans and Lyrans.. Or at least alter existing textures to look like those races worlds as they appear in SFC.

However, the biggest problem i'm facing is Light_Noise. The Lyran homeworld for instance in SFC has Green city lights.

In the GFX folder there are DDS files for Earth, Mars and Class_27, but these don't seem to be used. And twilight seems to use the light_noise file that's in the DA GFX folder

So is there a way to make a light noise file and have it only associated with one given planet texture?

Or could this be a feature that could be put into GALCIV 2.0, or via patch?

It's a small feature that could make a big aesthetic difference.

That's a shame, I was hoping to make a more varied appearence for planets.

Well there are many things that need to be improved in GalCiv 2, and the graphics are secondary to Combat, Spying, researching techs etc.

I'm sure in GalCiv 3 there will be all those additions. For example, various lightmaps, high resolution clouds and textures, diagonal rings and so on.

I agree that graphics are secondary, and something like the abillity to make planet specific lightmaps are even more so, I just thought that with the earth lights, etc, there may be an unused XML Command that could be inserted into the custom planets files that would activate it.

If Galciv 2.0 still has a spot of work left on it, I thought that it could be a nice little bonus. Especially as galciv 3 is not going to be with us for a very long time. ^_^

Still wishfull thinking and all that. LOL..

The CoSH homeworlds to be given with version 05-B (soon, i hope) are soooooo weird that i had to simply turn off city-lights since it is a single shot drop affair only. It borked up the 'graphics' on the Spiderman web planet (and many more) so bad, it didn't make any sense to keep it.

I, for one, would love them to give us the Moons trajectory values as they are shown on the map editor... elliptic tilts provide HUGE visual variety which presently aren't used by the engine.

There is also the 'verification' on parsec_sector relative locations which sometimes cuts the intended ring sizes when planets are randomly cornered or even discards the fifth planet from a custom system - i find that annoying, and should somehow be 'fixed'.

I'd also find some use for true black (or red fires!) clouds - that's a given. XD
