Horrifying performance, graphics corruption?

Horrifying performance, graphics corruption?

Issue description:

On my system (which is admittedly aging somewhat, but can run Supreme Commander pretty well) the beta chugs along to the point that units/demigods seem to "jump" from place to place, even at minimum/off-everything graphics. At slightly higher graphics, I see my control circle move forward while the displayed model of the Torchbearer stays where it is and later pops over to the correct location. (damage etc. do seem to respond to the correct location of the control circle)

The units and demigods also appear to be one-coloured blobs that vaguely fill their outline. My Torchbearer, for example, is an orange shape in the Torchbearer outline, where you can sometimes see some of the textures. The AI demigods appear in what is presumably their player colour. (ie. purple, green, etc.)

Information resources:

My graphics driver is up to date. (I just patched it)

I'll include the Dxdiag I made if someone tells me how. (near total tech noob here)

I'll include a screenschot if you think it'll help understand what I'm trying to say above. (and if someone tells me how to make and include it)

And, of course, anything else that I can provide that'll help.

Will it work on? Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz Ram:1024 MB Video card: ATI Radeon 9600

Poorly if at all. I don't know that video card well enough to say for sure, and the other specs are questionable for sure. It seems that it doesn't support Shader Model 3, which demigod needs, so I think you're out of luck. Sorry.

It should also run fine on a Geforce 6 series card just fine too.

Confirmed. My 3-year old GF 6800 (AGP model with 512 MB of vram) runs the beta fine & fluid at a rez of 1440 X 900, if I turn off V-sync (which I always do), shadows, and AA.

I tried at 2x AA, and it was a little less fluid, and not really much better looking (except when zoomed-in close) : not worth it, for me.

I usually prefer to play all my games in a horizontally stretched window (on a 19-inch widescreen, with a 1440 X 900 desktop-rez). I tried that here, and the beta looks even better, and runs with even better framerates.

My only caveat is that people who have the cheaper models of series 6, 7 and 8 GeForce cards will have to lower their settings -- as it was reported on other threads.

Good, my old P4 box should be able to run it as well. Of course, I'm not sure how much RAM it still has (I think 1 gig, because that's all the mobo supports in a slot and I lost a stick a while ago.

Still, it's a pretty good box, has a nice quick P4 (as P4s go, that is, but still pretty good) and the same card as yours has. It started out with an X800 IIRC, but I melted it trying to play oblivion. Good times. The toaster smell lingered for weeks, and three of the contacts melted off. It's a miracle the motherboard still worked.

Demigod runs beautifully on my shiny new ATI 4850. Very smooth at 1280x1024 with all settings max, including 4XAA and 8XAF. Framerate seems to be quite up there, though I am unsure how to check the precise rate in Demigod. Honestly I'm impressed with the performance I'm getting, considering I'm still running an old AMD64 Athlon 3200+.

Do you think the game might just have trouble with ATI graphics cards in general? It seems like all the people with problems who've posted here all have ATI...however it seems like the nvidia cards are doing fine...(downloading the game right now so I dont know for sure, but methinks my 8800gt will do fine)

Ati dont have problem in general, the game test try to play with are too old to support the game, unless the full version offer sm2.0

any card in the x1000 series, 2900, 3800 and 4000 will run like a charm
