Demigod Beta 1 Impressions

image

I'm trying out the staged build of Demigod off of Impulse right now on my work machine.  Hopefully this will help players walk through what it's like.

I'll be updating this as I go along...

Installed. Running.

My fresh install of Vista doesn't seem to cut it with the base nVidia drivers.

So I run dxdiag:

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)

Wow. My drivers are over 2 years old.

So time to update my drivers...

Back to Impulse...

I click on Community and click on the nVidia tab and get my driver updated...

Once my drivers are updated, I re-run the game.

Ah, much better.

Remember to update your drivers!

These flags will become increasingly important over the betas. In the engine test, it's basically just about overpowering your enemy.  But over time, the way to do that will be through making strategic choices over which parts of the map you control.

This particular flag gives me access to better creeps who come out of the portal.  But other flags may provide all kinds of other interesting advantages.

This is the UI for beta 1.

On the left side are your 4 primary powers for your Demigod.  On the right side are 3 active item slots as well as your achievement slot.  The achievement slot is currently reserved for special items purchased with achievement points (these would not necessarily be available in skirmish games for those who want absolutely "equal" start ups).

The "1" button you see means I've gone up a level the right side is my player info.

This is the BETA 1 skill tree.  We plan to expand on this immensely over time. Our main goal for beta 1 was to settle on the UI.  Beta testers are free to suggest powers they'd like to see Demigods have (that is one of the benefits of being in the beta).

Keyboard commands:

  • Use the SPACE BAR to control the view camera (i.e. hold space down while moving your mouse).
  • Use the T key to have the camera track on your Demigod.
  • Use the QWER keys to activate your abilities.

Lol, I like how as owner of the company you get "all" the games! Not a bad perk if you ever get enough time to play them.

Edit: For some reason I can edit this but not the second, if someone can delete it as I've posted it in the wrong thread then delete this edit section it would be lovely.

You can't blaim me for being anxious.. :(

Weve all been waiting a while to play it. I hope I can help out by crashing the game a few times. :P

Don't have to tell me twice about being anxious to play it. I had it preordered within a week of the GPG-Stardock announcement :)

As soon as I get my key I'll be doing the same FB. Nice to see this going live today!

Of course, it's really a pity that today of all days my truck decided not to work. So sad.

WHAT?!?!? Am I right in seeing that the company owner has a 7X-series video card?? Hmmm, that might just be the default choices in the dropdown. Hopefully Frogboy, you are a little more hardware agressive than that!

bleh overkill :p

That card used to be good in its time. Although myself I'm not fond of nv-sandwich solutions.

Frogboy does it scale to both cards, does it, does it???

How about some weedkiller, maybe?

Yeah, people always seem to underestimate the importance of getting the most recent drivers, etc.  Can't wait for this baby.

Well, it'd only make sense for it to do so --  in exactly the same way SupCom does, by having a low/medium/high graphics setting.  Same engine, means (probably) the same rules.

It's nice to see my vid-card won't be holding me back seeing as how its better lol ;P . Now lets just hope the rest of works fine.

Oh, you didn't get the question. The 7950 GX2 consists of 2 Geforce 7900GT's with a bit higher clocks, in SLI, connected together, "sandwiched" so they communicate via one PCI-E slot. Pics

I was asking if the graphics performance scales when using both cards, in contrary to just using one(having the second disabled)

Definitely looking forward to this.  And hey, it's after 12pm, so TECHNICALLY it's afternoon.  Release the hounds!  >D

i have an 8800gt 512 overclocked to 750/1813/2000 with a duo core 8400 @ 4ghz I wonder how high of a graphics setting it can do, so far i havn't run into any games that I can't play on max @ 1680x1050, so it would be interesting to see how it scales to even high grade graphics cards like the 9800gx2 or the 280
