Economy confusion

All right, I'm very confused here, so maybe you guys can help.

I'm playing through my game, almost at the end, and I'm making about 6000 bc a turn, usually closer to 6500. And then, within 2 turns, I'm making -200. Any ideas what could cause this? The only major thing that changed is I took a couple worlds that I used to control back. If you want to know any more, just ask. I really want to get a win out of this, but running out of money won't help.

Well, I feel dumb, because I just looked and saw my tax revenue was where the loss was. Would that cut be from all the troop transports I launched to take the planets?

Don't feel dumb.  You're only stupid if you don't ask questions.

Money in the game is generated from taxes, which is taken from population.  Taking over planets militarily kills your population, so it kills your income, too.

Furthermore, all new buildings in newly taken planets begin charging maintenance and production costs immediately so that tends to tank your income as well.

Don't you, by chance, have more then 20,000bc in reserve?

If you do, that gives you "undocumented" economy penalty for having too much money.

That would do it, thanks. I'll try to avoid that from now on.
