An Event I Despise

It's not a mega event. At lower difficulties I would barely acknowledge its occurrence. But at Obscene or suicidal, it is so irritating I want to quit the game.


The event is the "A secret meeting blah blah blah threat blah blah the war has expanded." I'm always the one that gets boned by it. I wasn't even doing that well one game. Statistically I was 4th. I was friendly with the top 3 races and this idiotic event caused all 3 of them to declare war on me. My hatred of this event burns like the core of a neutron star.

That's some bad luck there. I don't think I've ever gotten the sharp end of the stick on that event. I guess it depends on how aggressive you currently are and where in the pecking order you are (as you said, 4th).

One thing that I've noticed will trigger this event is conquering minor races. My observation has been that conquering two minor races in a relatively short time span is a sure fire trigger.

this one is triggered when you declare war a lot. the best way to avoid it is to phone up someone you're not about to go to war with, and on your side of the trade screen, add 'declare war on __________', then see if they'll give you something for it. even if they won't, you can "give" that to them free of charge without taking the same penalties to diplomacy/popularity.

I had conquered one minor race, and had the Arceans declare war on me. That was it.


Dystopic, you mean that if I sell my declaration of war on someone to someone else, I can avoid these dumb events AND generate profit? I could kiss you. Wait... Hug you.

LOL at least that's my understanding. i don't really mind the event, myself, because i'm usually at least 25x more powerful than the rest of the civs combined.

Like I said, it is my observation that conquering minor races can be a trigger. One may be sufficient (as it was in my most recent game) but two in a relatively short period of time is a more sure-fire trigger. Just my observation over a number of games.

I haven’t had that event bestowed on me, while I have seen it happen to other races. The one that does bother me is the ambassador getting killed and an ensuing war starting. I’ve had this event three times in one game! Come on, been there done that! All you get out of this is some ‘target practice’ and their ‘Vengeance’s’ scatted across your territory.

Yeah Mac I think you're right. In my game last night, The Arceans took out the Snathi, and very soon after, this event happened to them.
