Object Desktop is a suite of apps. What app did you apply? What skin?

All I did was pay for the software, download it. I did not launch, or even apply the S/N that was sent to me.
When the installation of "Impulse and ObjectDesktop" completed, most of my Icons on the lower left tray were "White" and Icons and in folders were also white.
I can click on the "white" icons and go into properties and change the icon back to the orig. for most of the "white" ones. But after a reboot, they are all white again.
This is a brand new PC with Vista 64. No other issues until I installed "ObjectDesktop"

NEW Update, when I launch the "ObjectDesktop Launcher", I get the following message. "Object Desktop does not appear to be set up correctly. Launch Impulse to correct this? Yes No

I used the http:/stardock.cachefly.net ... .... link on my confermation email to download the software.

I have serrious reservations about using "Impulse". I am hoping someone from Stardock Support will read my email trail and have pitty on me and help with this problem

Have you sent an email to support@stardock.com and initiated a trouble ticket? Unfortunately it is the weekend and support may not get to reply until Monday. Also, if you have sent an email and received an auto-reply, sending another email will not speed things up as the email support system will restart the 24 - 48 hour response time. They do on occasion monitor the WC forums during the weekend.

You could try installing Stardock Central and see if that helps.

Yes I did open a trouble ticket (only one LOL) unlike my numerous posts here (out of frustration).

Impulse is a separate application use use to download and install the various ObjectDesktop programs, games, etc.

you can't download and install any of the ObjectDesktop apps without the serial number

Bichur, yes, I am aware that ObjectDesktop" is a suite of applications & that Impulse is a separate app. BUT, it seems that Impulse was bundled in with the "download" of ObjectDesktop. I used the "download" link that was sent in the Stardock purchase confirmation email to download ObjectDesktop. I was never givien a choice to download or not download Impulse! After the download, the installation started. Impulse was added to my desktop automaticly.
None of the App's asked for a S/N during the download/installation phase. It's only when I run the app(s) that it asked me for a S/N. The PROBLEM of the "empty" ICONS happened when "Impulse/ObjectDesktop" were being installed (before I even tried to run any of the apps!)

what should happen is you download Impulse (used to be you would download SDC), then register your ObjectDesktop serial, then you download and apply the various ODNT apps - the one serial covers all apps

try: anything you installed with impulse, use impulse to unistall, reboot

then either uninstall, reboot, reinstall impulse (or just open impulse) & register your Object Desktop serial, then try downloading installing (rebooting) and running one app at a time

I do thank you for your help, but I am going to wait until STARDOCK gets back to me with a "OFFICAL" fix. Have a nice evening

I only know of one 'fix' for user error....but that's for another time and place.

For now, I'll save you the time waiting for an "OFFICAL" fix.

Whether you believe either of us or not doesn't really matter, but that's exactly what Stardock is going to tell you to do. Three million plus did it that way and it worked. You did it your way and it didn’t. I don’t know…..what do you think?

Yrag, Thanks for your reply. I DID NOT "do it my way" and I would be the first to admit if it was "user error". I would like to think that I followed the instructions provided as per the email that were sent via STARDOCK in their payment confirmation email along with the S/N. Stardock gave two different links for downloading the software in their email. The links Stardock provided were not labeld 1) correct way, and 2)incorect way Not sure why you are taking it personally that I am not following the instructions for a "fix" provided earlier by another member of this forum? It's not that I "doubt" you! But there have been other threads on this forum about "icons disappearing/empty". And I would hope that Stardock has documented this and have a "Stardock solution" (which may be the same one that was provided above). By waiting for a timely response from Stardock I am hoping to mitigate the chances for further "issues".
Thanks again for your time and help and I give you my word, if I screwd up I will admit it (sometimes things just go wrong and there is no one to balme).

I just spoke to a very helpful (& understanding) support type person "Dave" from Stardock support.
He is sending me a email with instructions to try.

It turns out (I am hanging my head in shame as I write this) that I may have Interpreted the original instructions incorrectly.
(In orther words) I really screwd up big time! I zigged when I should of zagged.
I will let you know the outcome of this.

Yeah....that 'Dave' guy is a real honey....maybe even a keeper.

For what it's worth, if I took things ‘personally’, I’d have been gone ages ago…no worries there.

As for hanging your head: Don’t. Shit happens to the best of us.

The bottom line is that our only mission is to get your (and everyone else’s) machine up and running as they should be…..and I might add….we’re all pretty damn good at it.

If you still have problems, you know where we’re at.

Update;
I did the uninstall of Impulse and ObjectDesktop using the uninstall in control panel\programs & features. But it seems to have left behind neumerous dir's, sub dir's and files under c:\ProgramFiles(X86)\Stardock
And the following are still listed under the "all programs", Startdock, ObjectDesktop, ObjectDesktop LaunchPad"
Not sure if further cleaning is required before I try doing a re-install.

You can delete the left over folders/files and the start menu items if nothing shows as still being installed. That said, a better suggestion would be to run this: WWW Link It will get rid of everything Stardock related on your drive (if by chance IT leaves something behind, just delete it). Reboot and then install Impulse.* Install one app at a time from major to minor (ie: Windowblinds=major, Launchpad=minor)

*After installing Impulse, only install/uninstall Stardock apps via Impulse. Do not use Add/Remove.

Yrag, A few weeks ago I installed LogonStudio and it has worked/ still working well.
Should I put back the default "Vista" logon screen before running odnt_zapper?
Should I also remove LogonStudio?

Just to be safe, I'd set it to default. In Zapper you can exclude apps, so you might want to go that route if you have saved Logon screens...

If you have any skins for any app you want to keep, save them outside any Stardock folders. When you're done re-installing, move them back.

Well I Give up!
I downloaded & ran odnt_zapper
I marked off the Objectdesktop related software. I did an apply
it showed all clean,
until I acually went to c:\programsfiles(x86)
\Stardock\Mycolors\Objectdesktop\deskscapes\LaunchPad\loginstudio\windowblinds
are all still there & their sub dir's (yes I rebooted the PC)
And if I run the zapper again, it shows the same app's as before I run the zapper.
It thinks it's doing something, and If I listen really carefully I think I hear it laughing at me! My next step is to do run regedit and remove stuff manually.
Not! In the last two days I have recovered 95% of my "empty/white" ICONS. I am just going to leave it alone, I won't annoy Objectdesktop and I am hoping ObjectDesktop won't annoy me (it seems fair). And with any luck I can get my money back from Stardock.
I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO TOOK THE TIME TO HELP ME.

Damn...I hate bad news.

I understand your frustration, but if you still want to keep trying to get the Stardock apps to work, say the word. If not and you just want to clean up your system from this debacle, then I believe I can help with that. (contact sales@stardock.com as to a refund)

OK....

Create a Restore Point.

Right click Zapper/Properties, check "Run in XP compatibility mode". Run Zapper. Reboot. Download: WWW Link and install as a trial- it is 64 bit compatible. (trial is 30 days full featured. If you don't like it at the end of trial, it un-installs clean.)

Look to see what files Zapper left. Anything you find, delete. Empty Recycle Bin. Run Powertools, let it scan your system (if it didn't on the install), set it to create backups and run the 'Registry Cleaner'. Have it fix all the errors it finds (drop down menu- Select all/ hit Fix). Reboot. You should now be back to where you started and ready (if you're game) for another go at this.
