CURSORFX - CPU Utilization extremely high issue - post if you have this issue

At times, System crawls to a halt with CursorFX installed

Hello - I am beginning a thread for all who have experienced an issue similar to mine:

I have a Windows XP rig with the free 2.01 version. After my PC wakes from Sleep mode, it operates extremely slow,  as if the processor is running at a 95% load. I can fix with a full reboot...

Does anyone have any ideas or fixes?

I have not found any recent threads here on this, but on the link I posted above, at least one user has posted a similar issue:

From Wizard1956:
"I have reinstalled the free version at least 5 times.Every 3 weeks almost like clockwork this lockup happens to me.CFX uses 80-90% of my cpu and must be closed by the task manager.I either change cursors by clicking on the cursors file or uninstall and clean out the 272 reg entries and 168 files left behind by the uninstall of CFX (as per Revo)in order to be able to reinstall it.If I don't clean up,it just locks again.
It is currently in this state. If V2.01 will fix this, great.I've never asked for support, and expect none with a free app.I do base future purchases on stability and ease of use, however.
OD free has NEVER let me down,I'm sorry I can't say the same for CFX."

Hey Diamond,

I've got the same exact problem on Vista. Every time I wake up from Hibernate, CursorFX bogs my system down and I have to kill the process.
Stardock support tried to say it was Zonealarm, but shutting it down made no difference. I think it is just a program bug that hopefully they'll address soon.

Counting v2.01,make that a total now of 9-11 times. I lost count. ;p I rarely use sleep, don't have ZA,and I disabled hibernate long ago.CFX would work, then one day I'd try to change cursors and the control panel would lock itself up.The cursors are very good, and it is free,so I'll put up with it.
I have been in contact with support regarding this.Hopefully, some good will come out of it for everyone.Stardock has been extremely busy lately but they'll get it solved,I'm sure.
I reinstalled CFX(v2.01.014) on 7/12 and so far it's all good.

I re-installed CFX Free on O7/12/08-v.#2.01.014.I have changed cursors dozens of times since then.It worked flawlessly each and every time.Guess what? The "timer" went off twenty minutes ago.The control panel now locks up as soon as it's launched. My 21 day free ride is over again.
Absolutely nothing has been changed on my system to cause this either now or for the past 11 times, for that matter.
Time for uninstall #11,followed by re-install #12. X-(
I do hope someone is looking into this.

Same problem here. Cursor FX is using 50-55% CPU upon waking up from sleep mode. Must use taskmag to close and then blindly reconfigure the windows mouse cursor scheme or reboot the system. Any assistants in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue, with the added affect the cursorFX itself and the control panel do not work at all.  They run and eat up the cpu time (around 50%) but the control panel never loads/displays and cursorFX never runs such that a cursor is displayed.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times with associated reboots, but all without success.  The problem started occuring after loading some extra cursorXP cursors from the web site.  Up until that time things worked just fine.

I am using windows XP professional SP2.

Hi Dale Reed,

Try doing this.  CursorFX theme files on Windows XP are stored here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

Make a temporary folder that you can easily find and copy the contents of your CursorFX\Themes into it, then delete the above folder.  Next, de-install CursorFX and reboot.  Finally, re-install CursorFX which should get it working again for you with the default themes.  Finally, add your additional themes one at a time slowly to the correct CursorFX\Themes folder.  That is, apply the Windows default cursor, close CursorFX and add one theme to the Theme folder then open CursorFX apply it and make sure CursorFX is still working.  Repeat this process until all your themes are restored to the folder or you identify a defective theme(from a bad download perhaps?).

See if that gets things working for you again.

Do any of you have Wacom tablet? Certainly CursorFX (and CursorXP) is not compatible with the tabtip.exe that makes up part of the Wacom tablet driver. It results in the CPU staying at 60%+ utilisation.

I can't use CursorFX for this reason, which is a shame.

(Vista 32).

I do have a Wacom tablet (on XP) and the CPU load is just fine...that is until I hibernate and then esume.

This _always_ triggers the same isssue others have.

Killing the cursorfx process is the only way out (short of a hard reboot).

Yes, I have found the same problem, as well.

I tend to find myself working on things that I can't quickly close (drafting skins, composing music, etc), and will hibernate my computer when I go to class.  I didn't have any problems with hibernate before CursorFX, aside from a couple isolated instances before I learned to leave my computer alone until it is done hibernating.

Upon resuming from the hibernation (and it only happens about 50% of the time, or so), my computer slows down to essentially unresponsive.  I am able to pull up task manager, though, where I find that CursorFX is using about 55% of the resources, and the System Idle Task is using the remaining 45%.  The percentages change, but CursorFX is almost always higher, and the total is somewhere around 99-100%.

So far, the only thing I've been able to do when that happens is to end the CursorFX process, and then re-open CursorFX through a series of mostly memorized keyboard shortcuts, and then navigate my way through CursorFX via mouseover effects on the buttons to reapply the cursor so I have a cursor.

I have so far been able to more or less copasetically use it, but if it is an identified issue, then it would be nice if it was patched.
