Where are the archives kept?

Hello,

I downloaded all my object desktop items that I purchased last year before my subscription expired and used the auto archive button to archive them.

I recently had to reinstall windows vista so there is a windows.old folder with the old program folder with some stardock folders in it, but I fail to find where my archived software is so that I can reinstall it.  I'd hate to think that I spent $49.95 on object desktop for nothing.

Please tell me where to find the archives so that I can reinstall all my great object desktop software.

Thank you,

If you can't find them on your system, you should still be able to download them from Stardock. Have you tried Impulse? Imuplse will show all of your most recent product registrations and should enable you to restore your Object Desktop for you.

Yes I've tried Impulse, because my account has now expired, they want me to re-up for another year to update my registration so that I can download all the items again, I see no options either by right clicking on any of the my desktop items or otherwise that would let me "restore" them. My guess is that because I had to reinstall Vista, that Impulse is not going to be able to find any restoration files even if they still exist in the Windows.OLD folder that the new installation of Vista created.

all mine are in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP

try doing a search for file type .sdc

You could try mailing Stardock at sales@stardock.com or support@stardock.com .
They'd be more than willing to help you to get your software back.

if they still exist in the Windows.OLD
End of quote

Well, don't count on it....
I reinstalled Vista a couple of months ago and found that the "Windows.OLD" folder does contain most of the old files, BUT.....
Some of the system files/folders in this folder are 'linked' with the new installation.
I found that out when I started cleaning out alot of files from the "Windows.OLD" folder..... Visat didn't like that ;)
Plus I lost 1½ years of stored emails...... I had hoped that I could restore the .pst that Outlook automatically uses for storing whatever is my inbox/sent mails/etc etc from that folder.
Sadly though.... The new installation of Outlook had overwritten the file in the "Windows.OLD" folder...
Clever move, Microsoft.... (not)

Yeah the only thing in my Windows.old folder for Stardock/SDcentral/BACKUP is a file called eula.txt so I guess I'll have to email them and see about getting all the software again.

Jalida,
You migt try some of the data recovery programs they are quite good. When I upgraded my previous computer form widows 200 Pro to AP Pro I formatted the hard drive and installed fresh after copying my stuff to DVDs so i thought. i woke up in the middle of the night realizing the number fo backup DVDs i had would not hold all my photos and sure enough i had lost my wedding pictures. Bad consequences for the new groom. I purchased a program called Active-Undelete and was able to recover everything even after the format and re-install. I believe they have a free trial to see if you can recover those files. there are even some good free ones out there such as pci file recovery at http://data-recovery-professional.com/ and Recuva at http://www.recuva.com/.

Or you could just re-up I intend to and I haven't lost anything. But I have a ball at this sight and related sights.
