Question on Certain Random Events

Hi guys,

A question that's been bugging me on some games regarding the random events.  Sometimes there's an event like "Analysts say people are just half as happy as they used to be, no real reason can be found, etc."  or  "Corruption is costing us nearly 1/3 in lost tax revenues but Trade revenues have increased."

I get what the point of each of the events is - namely a morale issue that needs to be solved with more morale structures and an incentive to increase trade in your empire.  However I also wonder, especially in regards to the first random event in my example - is there a solution to the issue or is it just resetting the bar?  By that I mean for example there is another random event where suddenly there's spies on every one of my worlds and I need to start spending money on espionage to create agents and eliminate them otherwise my empire is grinding to a halt.  Is the Unhappiness scenario something like that where I need to find a solution to fix the rampant unhappiness or is it just the game making populations less happy in general and I just have to deal with that?

In other words are there some random events without any solutions or that don't require you to do something in order to set things right?

There is always a solution to the random events, but sometimes those solutions could be more costly than the problems. ;p  The Unhappiness event, as with many others, are only temporary and can be waited out. :)

The events do not reflect what is occuring in your empire at the time of the event; instead, these events undo the balance you have achieved to that point. By this I mean, the unhappiness event does not indicate that what you had been doing to keep your people happy did not work - it just undoes the effectiveness of your +happiness factors by weighting the natural unhappiness to a higher level. However, this event passes and things go back to normal. The most practical way to alleviate this particular examples effect is to lower the tax rate temporarily, or find another civ-wide bonus.

You shouldn't be overly concerned about the random events. Most of them are temporary. There is only one that I can think of that you should really pay attention to ASAP. I'm not going to tell you what it is, because you should have the satisfaction of finding it out for yourself; but if you get it and solve it, you have the fast track to winning your game.

The megas are another matter. They are meant to be unbalancing. You will know right away that action is needed. It could be the Pirates!, or the Jagged Knife, but you will definitely have to alter your strategy.

Don't worry. You'll learn all of these in time, and find your own way of responding.

Good luck.
