Changing color on ships

O.K. I liked the way the ships looked(in the shipyard) in galciv2. Now I was looking forward to the expansions, and the enhanced graphics. Overall everything is much better, but ... the ships in the design screen? Can I(A complete newbie) get rid of the yellow highlights on the ship building screens? Sorry, to me it looks a little cartoonish.

Where do I look, and what do I change? I would like everything to be neutral(gray) or shades of gray.

Does anyone have a mod with a better(in my opinon) look? I don't want to mess with the code if I don't have to.

Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you mean about yellow highlights, but you can change the colour of the UI in the race customisation screen.

Though perhaps i've not had an issue with what you mean, and haven't noticed it as a result.

I know about the customization screen. I just think the base color scheme for the ships looked better in galciv2. They were blue and gray. Now there are these yellow parts on the ship that look funny to me.

I don't know much about modding, but if there is a reference to color ... well I would think a new value could be used? Maybe I'm reaching a little???

Just a minor little disappointment, but the gameplay seems fantastic!

You'd need to basicly alter the entire set of UV-Texturing files (found in the GFX\Models folder) for anything splashed up on those ships.

Such things as S4_Huge_3_L.png for the Korath style (i believe that's the orangy artifacts you were refering to, right?) in DA or even, the 1024's versions in TA.

Get your drawing gear at the ready, cuz you're in for some alpha channel blending precisions too. Since, the bluey dropzoning effect files DO take a bit of good software handling & patience.
:)

There's also the fact that the basic (two-color_trim_hull_schema) layers can be optioned in by un-ticking the textures slot, too... which could indirectly pull these right off.

Yes, I was talking about the orangy artifacts. Sorry, that sounds like it's way over my head and not really worth the effort. I don't want to break anything! LOL

Thanks for the reply.

Just apply a Grey-Scaling filter (or through re-coloring of specific selections, btw) to the above file(s) and make sure you re-save it with the usual Alpha-Channel & the Transparency feature and you'd be doing what you want - indirectly.

I'm really a novice, and am way ... way ... way over my head! The only changes I have ever done were to text files in Alpha Centauri(real easy). I don't know what a Grey-Scaling filter is, or what the usual Alpha-Channel $ Transparency feature is.

I would love to learn about the stuff you are talking about, but don't know where to begin. Anyway, I thank you for replying.
