What you want in sins II

What you want in sins II

this is early to have a post like this but i want to know what people think.

I have not recieved any news of a second one, but i know that from the success of the first one there is going to be a second one, i know this is kinda early, they havnt even come out with the expasion yet. but i want to know what you guys think they should add, and there are no limitations on this, on the expansion you can only give small ideas because they can only add so much into one. so go wild with ideas! make as many posts as you like and come up with the wierdest ideas you can.

Here is what i'd like to see:

battling in space is awsome and all, but i think it would be really cool if you could fight on the planets. now this would make the game take even longer but what they could do is make it so that its the best out of three battles. i think this would be sweet because when you have huge armies in space its kinda hard to control the battle, its just kinda whoever has more ships and who has better tech. the land battles would add more statagy to the game. i think that would be alot of fun. plus it throws in all sorts of new units like, infantry, tanks, artillary etc. and it would be cool if you could use your ships as air support and they can bombard the enemy army. i think that would be so much fun. and thats too much to add into an expansion so thats what id like to see in the second sins, im sure there will be way more but thats what i'd really like.

ADDITION: i think you are correct callum99. but thats only if they focused totally on the ground battles, i want them to add more to everything, especially space battles because they lack tactical features. those are the kind of things i loved in games like battle for middle earth II or age of empires III.

With a Sins2 I'd like to see a focus on further improving the online multiplayer aspects (aka the real Sins game). I'd like to see (in no particular order):

A dramatically improved online multiplayer user interface. I'd like to be able to hang out in multiple chat channels at one time selectable by tabs and I'd like to be able to switch to the chat channels while in-game. (Sometimes the game can get slow or have lighter times and it would be nice to have separate team chat rooms and an overall game chat room.) Also, when you sign up for a game or if you're hosting, it would be nice to be able to pull up the game browser and see the other games that are forming. Also, I wouldn't mind having a built-in IRC program.

Voice comm support, perhaps through ICO. It would be nice if teams could join separate voice comm channels in addition to having an overall game voice comm channel.

The ability for dropped players (minidump, etc.) to rejoin ongoing games.

Far fewer minidumps and sync errors if possible, etc. (This goes without saying, of course.)

The ability to have games with more than 10 players, perhaps up to 16.

Some sort of a better way for players to get ranked by their skill level. Exactly how, I don't know. Perhaps player records could be listed as: Number of games played, Number of games won against players with more than 20 wins, Number of games won against players with 20-10 wins, Number of games won against players with 0-9 wins.

Auto-downloading for Galaxy Forge-made custom maps is a must.

Obviously it would be nice to have a few more ship types and a couple more races, but it's much, much easier to say that then it is to balance all of the new races and ship types. This would probably be harded to do than any of my other suggestions (which aren't about subjective game-balancing chemistry).

Online Multiplayer Tutorial and encouragement. I'd like to see an Online Multiplayer Tutorial that would hold people's hands and tell them about the existence of the online multiplayer game option. It could walk them through getting onine and finding games to play, etc. After someone has defeated hard AI in a couple games perhaps a message could pop up periodically inviting people to come online for an even greater challenge and to meet new friends.

dunno if it has to wait for sins2 but i would like to see a planet ability of some kind. ie the home world already acts as an alligence focal point. i want to upgrade a planet to "research base" status or "shipyard" status. these bought bonuses would enhance research or production kinda like the artifacts do. it would make planets other than the home worlds much more valuable to humans and ai.

When i click on an emeny target, i want the window, where you can read off the damage and such, to be maintained.
Not that it disapears when my cursor moves off that target or a ship flies over it.

Why?
Because if i see that the CAP shields are holding, i know that my force needs help or it will get destroyed by the surrounding fleet.
A bar on the left can not tell me that in detail.
Most of the times if there CAP ship is lost.... they are too!!

i dont think the need for a new race will be necessary in the second SoaSE,because never have i ever seen an expansion for an RTS that doesnt include some type of new race. depending on how early they want to start on SoaSE II there might be two expansions, and if thats the case then there should be atleast two new races in the second sins.

however, i ask that if there is only one expansion that they only add one race to it. as CenturionJixra said "it is extremely hard to add a new faction and make them balanced with the other factions". those arnt his/her exact words, but they are pretty close. i think that is something that almost always messes up an expansion. for example: when EA came out with the expansion to Battle for middle earth II, they made a new race called Angmar. that was the only race they focused on. you could only be them because they were unbeatable against all other races. i won 17 games in a row before i quit because it was so easy. this is exactly why i want only one race to be added at a time, that way things dont become so unbalanced all the other factions become obsolete. and if they do add another faction i ask that they dont only focus on that faction, that they add many new things to all of them.

one thing i like is that for the most part all the races on sins are unique. on some other games like: rise of nations, tiberian sun, the red alert series, the factions were a little bit different but for the most part they all were the same people in diferent uniforms with different weapons. one thing i like about sins is that all of the factions are different in many ways. if a new race is added i hope its not just some humans or aliens or psychics with just different ships and powers, i want them to have their own background, culture, and story.

I know this cant be easy, you have to make up everything on your own to make a new faction, but i was thinking about giving some ideas about what one might be like. if you guys think this is lame, i am sorry if you think so. either way post what you think should be added and what the new faction(s) should be like. i was thinking something along the lines of the race that hunted and destroyed the Vasari's empire. i have no idea what they would be like because all you know is that they destroyed the Vasari. all else is a mystery. all the factions are ancient, why not mix things up a bit and have a future race? one that is trying to change the past in order to save their future.(thats why they killed off the Vasari, maybe they were invincible thousands of years later.) this means advanced technology, but poor economy since the same resources used in the future may not be as available in the past. this is just an idea to maybe give the designers an idea for a new race. say what you think is dum and what you think is okay.

thanks for reading and please keep posting.

Ram ability! I wanna slam my close-to-death capital ship into another, heck even let the debris do some damage the surrounding fighters. And I wanna hear the tec capital ships yelling stuff like FIRE THE FLAK CANNONS

Here's a good example! :CONGRAT:

on a personal note, I would somehow like to see the shift move away from a solar system focus to a intersolar focus with the single solar system being more the equivalent of a city with surrounding tiles in civ games. that is, one, maybe two colonisable planets in a system, a bunch of stuff for mining operations, thats mostly it. think of freespace a bit, that game just "felt" awesome.

to borrow more from said game, entrance into systems could be via jump points, different ones depending on the point of origin. as you may have guessed this dosnt work all too well with the phase line concept. now, to counter the inevitable fear of wack-a-mole, ships have jump ranges limited by antimatter. think of it like the resource cost in hw, just that the way antimatter is gained differs. what you could do is automatic regneration. that would mean that you could jump a certain distance, but then you would have to wait to recover AND you couldnt even go back. voilá, perfect target. if that is the same resource you need for special abilites, then it means you have to get fairly close to your target, then wait for to get a reaonable amount of "battle energy" and then jump. couple that with a decent defensive sensor range and the defending player should have some time to organise defenses. and of course, the attacker needs to same some energy to return or risk getting totally wiped out.

of course you could add a ton of little items, like ships that improve regeneration, or places where regeneration is faster, mass objects like planets, moons, komets, whatever. those might lead to fairly interesting approach vectors/ strategies.

so ... what this "feel" comes down to is: this solar system you have would have these one or two planets for taxes, part of research and ship building, then a bunch of asteroids which now are in planet orbits but could be more spaced around as asteroid belts, komets and the like. but it would feel more open not like the unusual concentration of noteworthy objects we have now.

it may be a stupid or meaningless wish, but I would appreciate it because it would give the vaste reaches of space some meaning which are now more like irrelevant background. thats what how hw created the sense of vastness and emptiness in space I believe. and I liked that.

else, the usual stuff part of which hopefully makes it into the expansion

more diplomacy
more victory conditions
more story
campaign (if you think a campaign is not important. I played starcraft 80% at least for the campaign, screw you battlenet)

I'd like a way to handicap/augment human players. My son won't play against me anymore because I beat him a few times (handily-as I should, having played strategy games a lot longer than him), but I can't win when playing against him and his friend as a team (way too much fleet/development). Simply adding AI players to one side doesn't work since they don't cooperate all that well.

I'd like to see:

1/ More races.
2/ Factions within races allowing for variations in the tech trees.
3/ More ships variation from Strike Craft/Frigate/Cruiser/Capital (e.g. Destroyers, Pocket Battleships, Fighter Bombers, Hunter Killers (like submarines in space)Minesweepers...)
4/ Minefields - anti strike craft, anti capital ship etc.
5/ Buildable phase lanes between owned planets.
6/ Uber capital ships, like the planet killers in B5.

I also feel that the balance between races is very symetrical atm so every races has a cruiser specialising in this and a frigate that does that. I'd like asymetry - so maybe some of the new races could have only capital ships and strike craft to get the feel that not everyone's ship tech has developed along the same lines.

2 new races - the Securoms and the Stardocks!

more something for a patch or expansion I figure. go for the wc3 approach and give a setter for % hitpoints and/or shields. can't imagine it to be that hard to just tie the figures to the % of the menu and that system was simple and straightforward.

somthing that would make the game a little bit more interesting would be rebel planets that are neutral but wont let you colonize them without a fight. you have to conquer them like you would an enemy planet. i guess this could get really irratating if they were one of the only planets near you in early game. but late game i think that would be cool. I also think you should get some reward for conquering the planet, not just the ability to colonize it. maybe some new ships or maybe some powerful artifacts, some sort of resource bonus etc... something different than the usual.just a thought.

its already in. if you use the in-game map creator there is a value for it. it then spawns a couple of planets which have the standard 1500 infrastructure hp, a few turrents, hangars and a couple of ships. they even have a special name to their faction. I once heard the wanted to flesh those npc out a bit more, but lacked the time to do so. maybe we'll see more of it still ... thinking about the minor factions in gc II here.

Most of the planetary techs are based on Kardashev scale i, how about kardashev scale ii or iii. I would like to see Dyson sphere/swarm/shell/bubble/net technology, matrioshka brain, ... etc. More science, enough fiction.

oh,thank you, you see i never make my own maps, its to confusing and i dont play on maps i dont already have.

thanks again

Something like the build your own ship from Galactic Civ, where you have an ala carte of parts to chose from and you create a cuztom ship. Maybe this could be used as a capital ship option?

I would like to see some sort of "Combat Simulator" where you would be able to create a combat situation in order to try out different weapons and strategies. Just a screen with a sample planet and gravity well where you could populate with ships from whichever race with as many points as you like. This would answer those who have great computers and want to see enormous combats. It would also dramatically reduce the learning curve for trying new races. You could even "recreate" great space battles-scenarios players or the game designers come up with and perhaps even solve the desire of some to have "campaigns".

This would allow the player to even do something currently impossible, to create a combined fleet made up of ships from different races! Like how cool it is when you and an allie team up in a combat.

This would showcase the game's key feature which is dramatic space combat and reduce the learning curve of the game. Should result in additional games sales, maybe justifying the expenditure of game designer effort to create.
