What you want in sins II

this is early to have a post like this but i want to know what people think.

I have not recieved any news of a second one, but i know that from the success of the first one there is going to be a second one, i know this is kinda early, they havnt even come out with the expasion yet. but i want to know what you guys think they should add, and there are no limitations on this, on the expansion you can only give small ideas because they can only add so much into one. so go wild with ideas! make as many posts as you like and come up with the wierdest ideas you can.

Here is what i'd like to see:

battling in space is awsome and all, but i think it would be really cool if you could fight on the planets. now this would make the game take even longer but what they could do is make it so that its the best out of three battles. i think this would be sweet because when you have huge armies in space its kinda hard to control the battle, its just kinda whoever has more ships and who has better tech. the land battles would add more statagy to the game. i think that would be alot of fun. plus it throws in all sorts of new units like, infantry, tanks, artillary etc. and it would be cool if you could use your ships as air support and they can bombard the enemy army. i think that would be so much fun. and thats too much to add into an expansion so thats what id like to see in the second sins, im sure there will be way more but thats what i'd really like.

ADDITION: i think you are correct callum99. but thats only if they focused totally on the ground battles, i want them to add more to everything, especially space battles because they lack tactical features. those are the kind of things i loved in games like battle for middle earth II or age of empires III.

As far as I can tell, people really want real-time GalCiv II.

I'd like to see bigger capital ships. Like is star wars pew pew :P

Same, i would really like to see new capital ships and huge mega ships like in star wars or eve online.

I think the idea of a ground battle is good but it would kind of take the focus off of space and i would like to see the space part of the game inproved. good idea though

I want most of the stuff that makes Gal Civ 2 own transferred over to Sins and turned into Real time :D.

And add in a Campaign for each Race.

This is my first Galactic/Solar RTS.. and I've only been playing a week. But there are some things I'd like to see added ( or that I have not seen yet).

More victory conditions ( Diplomatic, culture, technology, see Civ).

More Civ building. Markets, shrines, monuments, govt structures (re: tax/pop rates)... Again, think of civ. As it is now, we don't really do much with the planets once we "Take them over". Split the infrastructure up into defensive, pop building... Needs more interaction. Sometimes I find myself just sitting there staring into blank space (LOL pun intended) waiting for a 0.05x damage increase in my pewpews... Gimme sumpthin else to play with!

Speaking of the 0.05x damage increase.... did you ever get the feeling that you research a bunch of crap an you can't really tell the difference other than you spent an hour and half doing it? Yeah... How about instead of that tier 3 research that add 5% damage to lasers, we actually get noticeable improvements. Like more missiles or different color beams... something to justify why I spent 4 hours trying to get a laster that will do 2dps more. Smokescreens, flares, missiles, tact nukes... more special abilities.

A story.

Experience for non-capital ships.

A story.

Better raiding abilities. Small fast attack craft to take out the stupid broadcast towers/or mining facilities and get the heck out with minimal causalities. Speaking of BC towers, why are their hulls as strong as capital ships ?! Do they really need 8000 hps?

A story.

if we're not talking about the expansion I'm not going to talk about a campaign, because that's addressed in the expansion
NO MORE GREEN STARS
better defenses, most are just a joke right now, especially the starting 'turrets'
ability to somehow defend noncolonizable places other than just having a fleet there
having space ponies something to look forward to other than the acheivement

thnx for your posts everyone, although this thread wasnt supposed to be posted yet, i was gonna wait till later, but i like all your ideas. keep posting please

this is just a wierd idea but it would be funny to do to another human player.

did you know that if jupiter had a little more energy in it, it would have become a star (lol we would be toast, literally.)i was thinking maybe you could do something like that to a gas giant in the game and make it into a star, like shoot a nuke or maybe a novalith cannon into the planet, igniting it, this could serve as a defence on a warp point to one of your planets or it could destroy an army near the planet. lol weird,i know, but i think that would be fun to destroy someone's army with one ship.

thanks for reading and please keep posting.

Jupiter would have to have been 6x larger to form a prototar kid....
close but still a far cry from star...
sins II would be awsome though!

I would like to see disasters on massive scale!
External events that can not been controlled by a player or computer player.
I'm talking about meteor showers, comets that scorch a planet, drawback and expanding of the universe (including it's planets), suddenly exploding stars and suns nearby, a race that jumps into battle without warning! witch is not on the list of players (surprise-surprise!!), or how about wormholes that suddenly change direction? could be pretty nasty!
Stuff like that!

Off course this will raise the bar of difficulty.
But that makes the war more interesting.
The war can shift in a flash in your favor....or not!
So these events must come after seval hours of gaming.
Because having a disaster every hour is no fun gaming!
You will focus more on the recover of that event, than wiping out your opponents.
Because that’s what this is all about!
WAR!

I think there should more diversity in the research brances. Also I would like to see some better planetary defenses, such and the ION Cannon from The Empire Strikes Back.
how about a phase jump inhibitor that prevents people from jumping INTO a gravity well. How about different tech that would discourage spamming.

Greater randomization in combat, less accenting of ship special abilities. I want the *chance* of a single capital ship scoring lucky hits that cripple or destroy elements of an enemy fleet. I enjoy Sins as is, but I regret that such randomization does not exist... 'X' number of 'Y' ships always trump a lesser number of others.

Also, of course, more faction types. An idea for new factions - sub-categories of the existing ones. Perhaps this is similar to a couple of C&C or Red Alert games (?), if an example might be cited.

More phenomena and assets that ***may or may not*** be in any given skirmish game. Think Diablo or Titan Quest. A.I. neutral factions, malevolent sci-fi forces, expanding black holes that require a sudden spate of dedicated research (specific to the hole...) to eliminate before they destroy worlds, worlds that are troves of relics or potentially super-rich in assets/population caps, etc. etc. . Vary my play, if my play consists entirely of experience within the skirmish world.

Do not concentrate on ADD children and desires for 30 minute contests. I want something deeper and more engaging.

i hope this one doesnt sound as nieve as my last post, lol, guess when my teacher said a little more energy she meant a lot. anyway you said a new faction, i agree, if you've read the lore tab on this site, it says that some unknown faction destroyed the vasari, i think that should be the new faction if they add one. that would be really cool.

lol maybe the mysterious faction is a collection of super intelligent robots, that probly sounds stupid but it would be a change from all the normal factions, because the robots arnt alive, but they can choose for themselves, they dont have to listen to commands or programing, that would be strange, but pretty cool.

A change to the Fleet upkeep. Right now I could, in theory, own 10 planets, max out my fleet, and pay far,far less than someone who has 20 planets with a max fleet. Instead of buying levels with different upkeep rates, each 100 supply you currently have would cost a flat rate of X Credits/Metal/Crystal per second. This means you need a larger empire to support a larger fleet. In the later stages of the game you could also spend excess C/M/C that you have acumulated to have a larger fleet tha your income can't keep up with (at least for a little while).

Turrets, instead of fixed fire points like we currently have. I'd like the facility for real, tracking turrets, at least as an option to modders if not on the stock ships. they could still use the existing fire arcs, I'd just like rotating turrets for weapons and some abilities.

I'd like a facility for capturing ships via boarding actions, either using assault shuttles in place of fighters/bombers or using marine boarding frigates or similar. And it should take some uninterrupted time to perform a capture, based on how large the ships involved are and so on. The steal-a-frigate ability just isn't quite the flavor I'd like there.

somthing that would make the game a little bit more interesting would be rebel planets that are neutral but wont let you colonize them without a fight. you have to conquer them like you would an enemy planet. i guess this could get really irratating if they were one of the only planets near you in early game. but late game i think that would be cool. I also think you should get some reward for conquering the planet, not just the ability to colonize it. maybe some new ships or maybe some powerful artifacts, some sort of resource bonus etc... something different than the usual.

just a thought.

A few things:

Scale adjustments: When zoomed in to the level where you're going to be seeing small details, planets should be big. And by big, I mean HUGE. Maybe to actual scale, as that would be very hard, but bigger than they are now. Capital ships should be slightly bigger. Distances in general should be bigger in comparison to ship size. Smaller strike craft and missiles.

Gameplay: Fewer, but more powerful, capital ships. LRM frigates should not be the only viable frigates for ship to ship combat. Rebel ships from the high end TEC policy tree should not be hostile to the fleet of the TEC nation responsible for them (holy crap that annoys me, they follow your culture and fight in your name, but when you show up they SHOOT AT YOU?). Real-time damage count. Weapons having different, but desirable qualities (lasers would be amazingly fast and able to intercept things such as strike craft, but limited to short range by dispersion. Missiles would be great against big targets such as capital ships. Autocannons would be great for piercing armor on frigates and cruisers. All the weapons seem to be a bit too similar as is.

But really, there's not all that much that needs changing, so much as the game just needs more content. A campaign, more ships, more planet types are pretty much all it needs.

I'd love to see a SoaSE II, just with bigger captial ships, more ship types, more stuff to research and land battles. (the ability to make land units, research land stuff, and prehapes even build cities?)

Why not leave some open spaces in the map to build spacestations there?
Or create an upgrade for an planet to extend the builing range for these spacestation?
You can build the really huge ships there.

1. Single player campaign. I would prefer it if each campaign was a start to finish storyline. I don't like how in warcraft3/starcraft no matter which race's campaign you pick, they all lead to the same end. I hate that. I would like to take my race all the way from nothing to galactic domination, not the lead in to the next race's campaign.
2. A victory cinematic. After playing all that time I deserve more than a dialog box.
3. Support for multiple CPUs/less chugging with large maps. I bought a top of the line system for this game and it still chugs mid-late game, especially at the higher timeframes. At least 1x is tolerable now.
4. Seperate messages for "We are under attack" and "our borders have been violated" or something like that. I hate it when I get a message because a scout is passing through my territory. Or maybe "System X needs reinforcement, Ally X needs reinforcement" which would only be trigger if enemy forces in the system were stronger then the defenses in that system or the defenses were taking more damage then the hostile fleet. Too many messages are spammed. I want to be able to select which messages I receive.
5. More information available on the diplomacy screen. I want to know who is at war with who and who is allied with who. I want to see power graphs/combat statistics as I am playing, not at the end of the game. The data could be a static report that is generated when you select that view, it need not be updated in realtime.
6. Improved color selection/paint jobs for your ships. I want the ability to custom define primary and seconday colors of my ships, and let me see how they look before I start the game. I really like how this was done in homeworld/cataclysm and was one of my favorite parts of the game.
7. Have all of the game's data stored in the folder specified during installation, not under documents and settings. My C drive is my OS drive only. It is tiny and just barely fits the OS and patches. Yet all of sin's replays and saved games, auto and manual, are stored there(and they take up alot of space, more than my program files folder). After every gaming session, I have to go clean out the sins folder under documents and settings because of low disk space warnings. Which is a shame because I like to watch replays.
