Make sure you install it in the directory you had previously installed the original Space Rangers 2, or copy all files in that directory after installation.

Not to hijack the thread, but since you guys seem to have actually grabbed Reboot already (rather than just complaining that "hobbyist" gamers need physical boxes), I might as well ask here too.

I have the US (Cinemaware Marquee) version of SR2 (fething Starforce). That being said, having finally gotten into the swing of the game (after over a year of on and off playing) and learning about an active(ish) community and expansion, I figure I'll pick up the expansion before I restart again.

I see that Stardock is selling it as a digital download. While I am not the biggest fan of digital distribution, I also don't really fear it anymore (I blame Mount&Blade and Steam). So, I figure since I got SR2 so cheap anyway (12 bucks, including shipping), I might as well buy this to play with while I still have time. Then, if a retail copy ever comes out, I'll pick it up again after the price goes down (or GoGamer does a 48-hour madness).

So here are my questions:

1. Has anyone tested to see if the Cinemaware Marquee version is compatible with Stardock's version of the expansion?
2. Will I still have to deal with Starforce? Or do I run it through Impulse/whatever the older thing was called?
3. This last bit is just for poops and giggles: Is the manual (the competent one that is on the hard drive, not the paper one ) updated too?
4. It looks like Stardock has two systems. Impulse looks like it is trying to be a Steam competitor, but will it be backwards compatible with all the stuff purchased/downloaded on the old system?
5. While we are at it, what are the terms of the download? Is it one of those limited number of download dealies, or is it like Steam where I can regrab it whenever I reformat/really need hard drive space?

Thanks.

Answers:
1. I believe some people got it working, yes.
2. No. Impulse installs a starforce free standalone version. After installation, there is not copyright protection whatsoever anymore.
3. No. In fact, many changes are completely unclear, and you may not know how to use several new features unless you read through a babelfish translation of the Russian Change log like I did. How to use the new disguise yourself as a dominator system is one odd example, (You had to right-click the hull in the inventory screen to activate it.)
4. Impulse supports everything bought through the old system, even though it does not have all the features of SDCentral.
5. Unlimited download, through a client. Not that unlike steam you only need impulse to download updates, not to run the games.
