Were my ships attacking each other??

I was playing the other day in a large map with a bunch of AI opponents.  I am TEC.  I was in the midst of a battle that was massive and my screen was clogged with ships.  I'll admit, my PC is only a 2.4 so it chugs pretty good when that happens.

Anyway, I could have sworn that a bunch of my own ships were attacking one of my capital ships.  The only kinds of ships I had in my fleet were:  heavy crusiers, light frigates, and capital ships.  I know what the shield-restore ability looks like when that fires off so I know it wasn't that.  It actually looked like multiple lasers all directed at my capital ship.

The enemy I was fighting was Vasari and there were a number of their capital ships present.  Do one of their ships have the ability to turn my forces onto themselves?  Was it a bug?  (I'm still playing w/ ver 1.03).  Or was I just misinterpreting what I saw?

FYI, I got my a__ handed to me in that battle, but when I reloaded and fought the same battle again, I routed them, which had me thinking maybe it was a bug...

Thanks!
GB

The Vasari carrier has the ability to replicate enemy forces...was there a carrier present? Perhaps you destroyed the carrier sooner the second time around?

Yes, I think there was at least one of the carriers. So does that Replicate Forces ability create enemy forces that look like my own ships? Do those cloned ships have the same exact stats as the original?

Thanks

I don't really know, but it does say so in the ship's description. While I do play Vasari mostly I haven't played much with the carrier's abilities enough to give an informed reply.

Apologies....I am a pretty new player, I will test it out in coming days when I can find the time to play.

I think you can only target your frigates with replicate forces. But an Advent cap has Domination, which takes over your ship. Either way it was probably neither, as one only takes over 1 ship, the other replicates 3. And since you said " a bunch" you probably meant more. Maybe you ran into pirates durign the battle? They tend to look like TEC ships.

I don't play TEC often, but I recall seeing a number of TEC vessels I was in action against have an orange wiggly laser effect connecting their ships. Not sure what caused it - a late game upgrade like Flux Field, maybe?
