Question on getting rid of the taskbar in windows

Right now, the primary purpose I've left the task bar on the bottom of my windows is for two purposes:
The time on the system tray, and seeing what apps I have open in the task bar/system tray.

If I were to get rid of this, and just put objectdock down there, how would I be able to tell what programs I have open in the task bar area, and system tray?  I sometimes use alt-tab in vista to go from program to program but mainly just click the task bar to maximize the application i want.

Is this simplified in object dock plus?

I use Object Dock Plus for the things you want. I use one Tabbed and one Zoomer dock. I have five tabs on the Tabbed dock one is for System Tray, another is for Tasks. I use the Zoomer dock for shortcuts. You can set it how ever you wish. You could have multiple Tabbed or Zoomer Docks

I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the Windows Taskbar, Just right click on it, select properties and select hide. At some point in time your system will hiccup and you will wish you were able to get to that Taskbar. Been there done that. ;)
