New here, with an easy question.

I have been messing around with the map editor and for some reason, the map I have made does not show up in the list in game.

What am I doing wrong?

Dumb question first, you are saving them out before you close the editor right? Have you checked the map directory for the file?

Yes, I am able to re open the map after closing the editor, and I can find it in the directory.

When you open the map file in Notepad, does it say versionNumber 0? Also, make sure you're not looking under "custom" maps. GF maps will show up in the list with all the other ones, if I remember correctly.

It says the version is "1", which would make sense since I haven't patched my game yet.

The versionNumber in the file was to check if you were using an outdated version of Galaxy Forge ;) versionNumber of 1 is right, 0 makes it not show up.

But yeah, it needs to go in the Sins install Galaxy folder, and it should show up without a problem mixed in with the other maps, I'm fairly sure.

Edit: By "not patched the game yet" do you mean you're using the out of the box version? If so, that could definitely be it. 1.03 changed the way map files were read, thus requiring versionNumber 1, so if you are using a pre-1.03 build yours actually needs to say 0. I don't think there are any other changes to the map file structure, though, so that might actually work if you don't want to update.

Changed it to 0, just the custom map file, and now my game won't even start.
*anger*

Ok, got the game to work again, but still no map.
I don't really know what else to do.

Update to 1.04? :P

Ok just to be sure, uninstall, restart, install Impulse and use it to download and install a fresh fully updated version, restart again before running the game. Then see if the option comes up for you.

At the moment I don't see too many other options to test out. It seems to me like you have files missing or some that might have gotten corrupted. Please let me know if this works for you.

You can also contact us at support@stardock.com if you would like to take this further.

I don't think it's a corrupt install or anything missing. Sins 1.03 changed how the maps are treated, and a new Galaxy Forge was released to accommodate it. Old maps could be made to work with newer Sins by changing versionNumber from 0 to 1, but it was just a guess that it may work changing from 1 to 0. There are other possible things that might have changed with 1.03 to make the new GF not produce maps compatible with old game versions.

Really, the best bet is to update :P

Sorry I think I assumed it was updated. If that is the case Cent I would highly suggest updating.

Yeah, I missed the not updated part there for a while too. :)
