More crashes since 1.04

Hi everybody,

I have been reading the forums (especially Technical) since a few weeks and the experience in the forum as well as my personal experience with SoaSE have shown that actually things got worse with patch 1.04.

I've never had any crashes with version 1.03 but since I updated to 1.04 I can't play 10 minutes without getting a "minidump".

However that leads to a few questions:

1. Did anybody observe the same and probably has a solution?

2. Is there a way to downgrade the game to version 1.03?

3. Is Ironclad aware of the possibility that patch 1.04 might have messed things up a little bit?

I would appreciate any comments, however I do not need the tip to send my minidump file along with dxdiag log and system spec to the support, I am aware of that fact.

If you (and others who've been told the same) have, then I'm sure they're acutely aware of any upswing in reports that may be happening.

Okay my Original Post might have sounded like a blame-post which it was not intended to be. So sorry about that, but my questions remain open and I would appreciate answers especially to question 2 since that has been the stable build for me and I would like to continue playing until issues might be fixed with a further patch.

Another suggestion comes to my mind that might help to increase customer trust:
What about a pinned post in technical forum where officials shortly list (and maintain) bugs that have been reported and verified by customer support. Additionally for each bug a short note about the planned patch / release where this bug will be fixed could be included.

Since Release Planning is a common technique in software development I am convinced Ironclad/Stardock has such plans anyway and the community would surely appreciate to be informed (at least to a certain extent) about the ongoing development plans.

The only way you can downgrade to 1.03 is if you:

a. Archived the game after you updated to 1.03
b. Archived the game prior to 1.03 and saved the standalone patch for 1.03
c. Own the DVD and saved the standalone patch for 1.03

Remember that if you play a version prior to 1.04 that you will not be able to play on Ironclad Online.

Thanks, I suspected that kind of answer. Downloading the standalone patch 1.03 is not the problem but since I downloaded the game using StardockCentral and did not archive the game on patch level 1.03 (since doing that would mean that I actually expected the next patch to be worse) it seems that I have to stick with not playing Sins until next patch.

I am not playing online anyway so it would not make a difference for me playing 1.03. I would even play 1.0 if possible but installing the game from StardockCentral always directly leads to 1.04.

I already have to suffer with this when it comes to Steam games, so with Stardock I'm sure to buy their CDs/DVDs in case I want to start from step zero. Fortunately with Sins I have had no trouble with 1.04.

So of course the next question, which it doesn't seem like you want to pursue right now, is, "Why are you getting so many crashes?" I'm not quite sure why you're hesitant to send info to Ironclad. I did it with the one crash I got, and promptly got an answer back as to why it was happening.

That may sound odd but I have worked through all the Troubleshooting guides available on these forums and since nothing worked I am convinced that my problem is not a configuration issue but a game issue. Thus the customer support won't be able to help me anyway except a statement like "We'll try to search and fix it".

But you are right, I should at least take my chances  :CONGRAT:
So I will reinstall the game, collect a few minidumps and send them to Ironclad.

If it is in fact a game issue then they will be able to tell you EXACTLY why it's happening. Send the files to support@ironcladgames.com.

Actually I don't believe that, even more I know that in most cases this is not true. Unfortunately software tends to behave differently on different systems and for support teams it is practically impossible to look at a log file and some system specs and tell "I see, this combination of CPU, graphics driver and OS update version may cause the issue" because the number of combinations (hardware and software) is almost endless.

But nevertheless, no need to argue, you are right to at least give them the chance to tell me what's wrong.

It depends on what the file says. Perhaps your problems are already known. For me, they were able to say, "Yes, this is the multiplayer pathfinding bug." So now I don't have to sit wondering if it's my problem or theirs, because they've clearly identified my crash as a problem on their end.
