Artifact Newbie Question

How do I use artifacts when I find them?

Hello everyone!

I am just getting into Sins, but I haven't worked out how to use artifacts when I find them.  Do they just give a pssive bonus to the planet they are found on, or do they add options to my research tree, or what?

Many Thanks for your help

When you explore a planet you can get a bonus to the planet or find an artifact (rare) and the artifact adds damage or anti-matter or jump time

To further elaborate, artifacts (the ones that actually show up on the research tree once found) grant you empire-wide passive bonuses. Planetary bonuses (which will show up on the planet's infocard) only affect that planet and anything applicable in that planet's gravity well.

Just a note: You do have to maintain possession of the planet to keep the artifact's benefits though.

Also, you can see the artifacts influences in the research tree's "Artifacts" section.

BTW, what is the "artifact research done" in the end game statistics? It's always been 0 on my games.

End of quote

It's just a leftover statistic from back in the betas when artifacts worked a little differently.

So I've heard, anyway. It doesn't do anything, now.

It should've been changed in 1.04 to say Artifact Discoveries or something of that nature  :SURPRISED:

Well, that makes more sense. I haven't payed that much attention to statistics since the update.

How worthwhile is it to explore planets? I almost never find artifacts, so I've given up on it.

Short game: probably no use at all. Medium or long game, if you have the resources to spare, it could be worthwhile. I played a 5 star game vs 9 AI last week and just before the end I had all the artifacts. But I had 4 quite early on. It can really make a difference.

And on large maps, it's REALLY worth it if you have Advent and research their cheaper exploration capability first.
