A poorly designed freighter becomes the standard freighter for me and all other races, why?

How can I change that?

In one of my first games I played a littlebit with the shipbuilder and of course my first ships looked very poor. The Problem I have is that I once designed a very crappy freighter and this crappy design keeps apearing as the standard model in every game under the customized ships, not only for me but for the other races as well, and they build it :(
How can I change that? Because I really do not like it.

With all questions, it is helpful to know what version/episode of the game you are playing. Please make sure your game has the latest patches. Tons of new content got added and lots of player requested features too.

I believe you can delete a design in the shipyard screen.

As I understand it, each core race has its own ship design setup. This means that when you save a ship using the Terran base ship design, it should only show up for races using the Terran base ship design. So if you played as a Torian, it would not show up in the list.

The other question is, are the freighters you are talking about being 'crappy' the ones that go to/from planet on their own?

If so, those ships are a design upon their own that a player has no control over. You can make a freighter with 40 parsec a week engine build to get to planets...and the final freighter doing the routes to/from planets will still move at 1 parsec a week.

I thought that the graphical design was still the one you built and sent to start the trade route? Anyone know for sure. I am typically a self-sufficient galactic power and have no need to trade my precious secrets and resources with the squabbling cannon fodder that fill the galaxy around me.

I have the newest version 1.50.135
It is true: every race has its own style. However the Build-up is the same. Every freighter has the modules placed at the same spot.
With "crappy" I do not mean the engine or technology but the outer appearence. Modules I place that do not serve any other reason but ti give it a better look.

I was asking for confirmation (I'm too lazy right now to load a game and check) that the trade ships keep the look you gave them when they are actually running the route after it is set up.

Or is that not what you were talking about to begin with?

They retain their appearance, at least in DL.

If it is a ship you designed and named yourself, (not a core design) You can go into your MyDocuments/MyGames/GalCiv2/Ships and delete the .shipconfig and .xml file named for your design. Be sure NOT to delete any of the Premeade core designs, that can cause big problems.

The version number suggests your playing DL, but just in case your on DA just look for the Dark Avatar folder in the GalCiv2 folder then ships.

If you designed it in a metaverse game you'll look for the Metaverse Folder under that same directory and delete it from the ships folder in there.

Oh yea. Make sure to finish any games you have going with that design in it before deleting it.
