What do you get?

I'm considering purchasing the digital download of SoaSE, havin read the review, played the demo, etc. What files does the download actually consist of? Is it a .rar, a 'la torrents? I ask because I want to know whether I can backup/iso to disk, or if it's some strange bundle, like EA store's copy of C&C3, which can only be installed from the EA d/l manager, and won't install just from the setup program in the file.

The download self-installs, so you never actually see any of the format. You are able to create a backup, but it is as you call it some strange bundle - SDC's internal backup format. I have no experience with EA's, but generally Stardock strives to make life simpler so you really don't need much. Just the SDC setup so you can install the software, and the backup archive is all you need on your disc.

You can download as many times as you need to - I never used EA's backup thing, but I got turned off several online buys with their 30 day download limit (or pay $$ for longer). With SDC, once you make a purchase your serial is permanently attached to your account, and you can download whenever and as many times as you need to - no expirations.

But yes, you can install from the archive/SDC if you make a physical backup :)

Yeah Stardock lets you download your software on as many computers as you like.

You can install it from the Internet as many times as you want, you can archive it to DVD-R as many times as you want, and you can install it from that archive as many times as you want.

Simply, as Annatar says, put a copy of the Stardock Central install program on the same DVD-R as your archive. That way you'll have everything you need (in one place) to do the Sins install at a future date.
