Icons and disappearing, on Vista

not renewing OD until fixes available

I want to use O.D. on my Vista laptop because the Start menu is rather poor.  I like what it can do for me.

But there are two main problems.

First, some programs have very very tiny icons.  Other programs, like Explorer, have no problem showing full-sized icons where needed, so they are in there somewhere!  The last advice was "find another icon".  Well, when selected in Explorer I see a full-sized high-res icon in the info bar area, so where is that coming from?

Second, when I close the lid to make it sleep, when I open it again it takes a fraction of a second to resume.  But O.D. is gone.  The tabs docked at the side are simply not there.  My work-around is to click the OD icon in the tray, which brings up the settings window, and then close it.  The windows usually reappear along with the setting window, but sometimes not until I close it.

Finally, a feature request.  I'd like to disable a menu without deleting it.

I understand you are having problems and would like to see them resolved.

Support folks and just about everyone else has been just a little busy getting out some very nice upgrades and enhancements.

A statement that you will not be renewing until fixes are available, well I think you can figure out how that will be received.

Have you gone to support@stardock.com and started a ticket?  :)

Stardock created and included some hi-res icons for some standard apps.  That is what you are seeing.  They are in the icon library. (Dock Entry Properties | Change Image | Bundled Images)

I don't sleep my laptop so can't help.  Providing your OD version # might help though.

And I don't understand you feature request.   :NOTSURE:

The icons show fine, for the same EXE files, under XP. It has a problem with Vista, extracting icons from some programs.

"Stardock created and included some hi-res icons for some standard apps. That is what you are seeing [in Microsoft's Explorer windows]. They are in the icon library. "

No, I'm not seeing the Stardock-created icons for these. On my old XP, I can "browse" and choose the EXE, see the icon for it, and it works. Now on Vista, with the same EXE, I choose the icon and it shows verrrry tiny. Meanwhile, Explorer can show it full size. Explorer is certainly not getting Stardock's hi-res icons!

Version is v1.90 build 537u, what Object Desktop says is up-to-date.

About as well as a request for more money for NOT having an update available was? Most companies only ask for more money when a major upgrade comes out. I think they might like to know that some people don't use a great many of the Desktop suite, and renewals might falter if they don't bring all the apps up to date within a one year period. The subscription thing kind of forces them into a one-year minimum upgrade cycle.

This statement is partially correct. The version is right but Object Dock+ is NOT part of Object Desktop. Note that this version is a BETA. If there were no BUGS it wouldn't be a BETA. There is a newer version available through Impulse but it's an ALPHA so if you use it and find bugs, DON'T be surprised.

This statement (and what follows) is completely INCORRECT....no one has asked you for more money for Object Dock+. Object Dock is NOT a subscription software. If you purchase Object Dock you get all updates until the next FULL release version...ie version 2.0 Although it hasn't been announced, Stardock will normally give free upgrades to those who purchased during a time span shortly before the release as well. OD+ version 1 was released long before there was anything called Vista and I've had free updates for over 3 years.
