EQ2 and vista x64 issues

Hi all,
Someone over on the EQ2 forums recomended this little app.  I have to say - l love it.  It works exactly as described without issues under XP Pro sp2 PCs.  However when I flick my main PC to Vista sp1 x64 it has issues with EQ.  Under the o/s its OK but the following things happen under Vista with EQ2.

  • While EQ2 is in full screen mode it multiplicity does not work at all.  I can not flick to the second PC.
  • If I try and flick and then minimise EQ2 my mouse icon disappears (goes invisible).  Generally if I then select and drag I can bring the mouse back.
I am only using Multiplicty public.  But since I want to migrate to vista I am holding off getting the pro version.  Is this a known issue?  Any way to fix it?

Thanks.

I just download the program the trial this morning and I am having issues going between both computers while having EQ2 in full screen on primary machine.

Primary computer
Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1
1440x900 screen resolution

Secodary computer
WinXP Pro Home SP2
1024x768 screen resolution

With EQ2 running full screen on the primary computer I get no repsonse at all on the secondary.
EQ2 running full screen on the secondary and the primary works fine until EQ2 loads up.

Yep, exactly the same symptoms here. I was running with Vista 32 on both boxes and everything ran like clockwork. I'm now running with Vista 64 on a brand new primary box and am having issues.

1) When EQ2 is running on the primary (windowed or maxed), I can no longer move the mouse pointer onto the secondary box.

2) When running in windowed mode, if I move the mouse pointer outside of EQ2 and onto my primary machine's desktop, the mouse pointer 'disappears'. If I click somewhere, it will reappear, and then I am able to move onto the secondary machine.

3) The secondary machine is obviously running the same, up to date, version of EQ2 and continues to funtion without any issues. So It doesn't appear to be an issue within EQ2.

So I'm wondering what it is that is suddenly causing this. Is it simply the fact that Multiplicity isn't happy with Vista 64 on the primary box? Or is it that Vista 64 treats the mouse pointer differently to Vista 32?

Given the fact that the mouse pointer behaves oddly in moving out of EQ2 even before I attempt to switch to the secondary box, I'm assuming it's this second guess. Either way, it unfortunately makes two boxing impossible and makes Multiplicity redundant :-( I'm reluctant to rebuild the box with Vista 32 as it's taken 2 days to build already.

Interested in any views on this.....

 :)

After extensive testing (and even more extensive swearing) I have found what is causing this!! It's the accursed Vista security.

I had been starting EQ2 by right clicking on the link and selecting "Run as Administrator". If, however, I simply double click the link then I get a message saying titled "Admistrative Privileges Required" that says "LaunchPad requires administrative privileges to run properly..... Press OK to close the launchpad, or Cancel to ignore the warning."

I click Cancel and EQ2 starts up as normal and runs.... and voila!! the mouse now behaves properly and Multiplicity control is back to normal.

My Ratonga Warden is now back under control and is no longer feeling sidelined :-)

Hope this helps others!

Thanks Recoil101... I am having this same issue and it was REALLY ticking me off.

Will try this when I get home.

It's amazing when 3 boxing how annoying having to click on the task bar at the bottom every time you want to switch PCs is... it's basically devastating.

Thankfully I had done the smart thing... had WinXP still loaded and put Vista 64 on a new HD and I just change the boot order in my BIOS.. this way the 2 OS'es don't know they exist on the same box and they can't mess up any DLLs or the boot sector. Gives me time to test everything before I fully go Vista... I find an issue and then use WinXP for a couple days while I look for a fix.

Actually... it's not working for me like that. When I do that I can load most of the way into EQ2 then EQ2 blows up.. I apparently need to run it as administrator but when I do it locks multiplicity in the window.

Someone else still having this issue.

Can you please look into it? Your application is completely unusable to me in this state... completely. IMHO Multiplicity is not Vista 64 Ultimate compatible.... and you can't say it is until this is fixed... it works FINE in WinXP... it's only in Vista x64 that I have issues with EQ2.

Set-up is
Primary PC WinXP SP3 and Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 dual bootable via bios drive selection.
2 Desktops and 1 laptop on XP SP2

On WinXP for primary PC they all work fine.

EXACT SAME SET-UP but booted into Vista 64 ultimate SP1... and it all goes to hell.

It has something to do with the way directX takes hold of the window since I CAN swap from screen to screen if I click on the taskbar to get out of the game window first... and it works fine on every application that doesn't load DirectX.
