Proper Way To Upgrade 101

need admin help

I currently have Stardock Central and Window Blinds 6.0 installed on my XP Pro machine using Trend-Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2008.

I've had problems in the past upgrading and hope a qualified answer is forth coming.

I have downloaded 6.1 and the current Stardock Central via an email sent to me by Stardock Sales  and have my keys ready to use at install.

I want to know what the proper routine to ugrade to 6.1 would be?

Step by Step Please in prefered order!

me, I just archive the version installed for backup
then I download the new straight to archive
then use SDC to do a straight update - if it borks I got both the old and new archived ready to go -

before I started the straight updates = after archiving:
switch to windows luna, unload WB, and then use SDC to uninstall
reboot
open SDC and use to restore the fresh archive of the new version
reboot

Actually the best way to upgrade is to:

1) Uninstall version 6.0.
2) Reboot
3) Run Stardock's clean software removal utility: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/odnt_zapper.exe
4) Download the setup installed for version 6.1
5) Reboot.

I dont think the uninstalling an old version vis SDC removes the existing version cleanly; and leaves junk behind. It's a good idea to not leave any traces of an old version when installing a new version so the new version doesn't inherit any of the problems that might have existed in the old version.
