Current AI sucks

I keep seeing races failing to develop...at all.  In my last game, both the Yor and Drengin failed to expand at all, both possessing only their homeworld and nearest satellite at midgame in an immense galaxy with plenty of worlds.  This is puzzling, because on the past few patches, the Drengin and Yor were pretty strong.

The Korx, Altarians, and Thalans still present no challenge at all.

I have seen only moderate success from Drath, Krynn, and Arceans.

The only powerful race at the moment are the Torians.  The humans are okay, and the Korath have faded since earlier patches but can still hang in there for awhile, and the Iconians can put up a decent fight.

I like playing Masochistic, which I feel gives the AI's an edge.  At higher difficulty levels, I get steam rolled, which I wouldn't mind, except it is just accelerated stupidity, the AI's tending to just mass-spam low tech ships.

More than any other feature, this game needs some attention given to the AI code, as, IMO, only the Torians are currently up to presenting any kind of challenge.

I'm also puzzled by a lack of development but in my case it's the Yor who have simply abandoned their colonisation efforts after snagging just one planet outside their solar system. And yet in a previous game on a lower difficulty (I wasn't being challenged enough) they had no trouble expanding at all.

The Torians have an edge as far as grabbing planets goes and therefore they can create a pretty robust economy. However a large empire without an adequate fleet to defend it makes for a tempting target.

Have you used Ctrl-N, and are the intelligences of the slow races listed correctly in the foreign policy screen? Most of TA's AI work happened during April, so they should be quite a bit stronger than when the OP was made.

I saw this yesterday. Everyone was expanding outward except the Yor.

All the AIs are set on Bright, Yor included. Haven't used Ctrl-N. The Yor don't seem to lack for colony ships, but they aren't keen on sending them anywhere. It should be especially noted that even though they can colonise Barren worlds without needing to do any research, in this game they failed to snag any of the ones that were nearby. Feeling sorry for them, I ended up just giving the Yor a couple of planets that aren't of any consequence. I think the Torians will wipe the floor with them though.

As I said, on a lower difficulty setting (again with all the AIs set the same) the Yor managed to expand without too much difficulty. Maybe there's nothing to that, but since the algorithms do change between the two levels of difficulty (or so the description of the difficulty settings reads) it's possible that the less intelligent algorithm is working better.

I guess that starting a new game with all the same settings might help to determine whether they just had a bad start. After all, they were basically thrown in the same quadrant as me. ;)

I just finished an Altaria Resists tournament game. This was the first time I really played a game with Dread Lords, so I don't know their standard behavior. They packed their planets with farms, yet somehow their population never seemed to grow to any significant amount. This is at suicidal.

I have noticed this exact complaint on suicidal. They hoard colony ships and don't send them out. I have most of the AI sitting there retarded. I buffed the Yor myself with some modifications and replaced the drath with a new race that is programed to perform well (honestly all they need is an increase to racial pop growth bonuses to be successful) I took out the terrans who were perfoming well and made a new bonus set up for them as well as another yor like race. The torians do well but that is all.
