Merchant Escorts

Can I assign some combat vessels with merchant ships to escort them on trade routes? Would they become a fleet traveling along the created trade route?

I don't think so m8. i think the best thing u can do is research trade, and build yourself a galatic privateer, it'll protect all of your trade routes

I think it would be great if you could though. But while I was thinking about it I figured the game would think you are attacking the planet.
