This forum - terribly slow?

Since I bought the game last week I've come here often to read up on the details of the game, browsing through many of the tips and tactics threads. BUT the forum is terribly slow on my 5MB ADSL connection with Firefox. The main Sins webseite loads ok, but the forum takes easily half a minute to display. Every time I open a thread I stare at the screen, waiting... waiting. Sometimes is works ok, but in my brief experience about 2/3 of the time the forum is slow to the extent of uselesness. It's worse than trying to surf the net with a 14.4 modem... ;)

No other site/forum I frequent gives me that problem.

Sorry for posting this here into the general forum, but I don't know where to put it otherwise.

These forums are pretty terrible.

This is horribly true. Right now I'm waiting over 45 seconds for another page to load.
Finally...

this happened after 1.3,

i was here everyday pre-1.3 and the forum was Juicy goodness quick like! With the release of 1.3 it seems like everyone and their brother is trying to post and read up on the patch...

Personally, they need to spend some $$$$ and upgrade to a bigger better server. its really bad right now.... i loged in like the day after 1.3 and OMG i could NOT get on the forum because i kept getting a "server busy" message! bugged me bad.

But, the slowness seems to have gotten better over the past day or so... everyone giving up trying to post would be my guess!

At "peak" hours it usually takes me up to two minutes before the posts load (note it's the threads ad posts, not the site).

*sigh* Before bashing the forums, perhaps you folks could check around first and read about how the forums were hit with a DDoS attack.

Ya, there is some cyber-psycho attacking the forum with Dos. You've got to have serious problems to spend most of your free time trying to disrupt/upset hundreds of total strangers. . . .

Mazuro, I'm not bashing the forums, I just tried to get some info on this since I haven't read anything about it. Since I'm pretty new to Sins and this forum I only wanted to make sure it wasn't something on my end, like ISP problems or some weird problem.

DDoS attacks? Oh my... what lowlife does that to a gaming comunity? Well, I hope the devs/stardock get it fixed soon.

I'm going under the assumption that the DDoS'ers are actually from rival companies threatened by Sins, and Stardock in general. Kinda an advanced version of plants that are paid bash rival games.

A ddos against the Sins site? Who would want to do that? I don't think it is that ^^^.

Where did you hear that this is happening? Any more info would be appreciated..thanks..

IIRC it was kryo who told me in the sins IRC chat that the site was down due to a "DOS".

I just can't figure out why this site is being targeted, nothing to really hate unless you just don't like these style of games (RTS/4X), and IC isn't running this site so they are only targeting SD even though this is the site for Sins (made by IC), not to mention what would happen should anyone find out a rival game developer/publisher was behind this.

Brad had mentioned it a few days back. Looks like it may be happening again. Argh.

Not sure what's going on with some people reporting issues tonight. It's been pretty snappy for me whenever I've checked.

If you are having issues with speed, check the times line in the footer and post it. It'll be something like:

Server Load Time: 00:00:00.0000516 Page Render Time: 0:0:1:781 (1781ms)

Sat here waiting for 5 minutes. Stopped loading then tried again. It then showed: Server Load Time: 00:00:00.0000062 Page Render Time: 0:0:8:593 (8593ms)

It seems if you click on something, hit ESC (or Stop) and then click it again, it loads normal. It's weird. -_-

The forums loaded slowly for me, as well. Also, the forms on the profile page were erratic and didn't retain my information. I just updated Java and things seem to be better, for the time being. For what it's worth, I use Firefox 2.0.0.12 on a homebrew PC running WinXP on a cable connection.

Right now I'm using the latest version of IE7 to browse the forums which it does adequately, albeit more slowly than any other sites. When using my normal browser, Opera 9.26, the forums sometimes just won't load, as was the case for me five minutes ago. This is a problem that repeatedly occurs, normally during this period of the day.

I've talked to several other players on ICO who have reported similar issues.

Yes and we alllll have time to check around and be 100% informed on the status of a forum we only frequent when looking for patch information... thanks *thumbsup* Maybe you could send out Pm to everyone every time there is a forum issue that may make all our lives a little better say once we read what that critical information is that we should have found before posting about a slow forum! *stops for breath* nuf said...

The browser has nothing to do with it. The forums were slow as hell for me the few days after 1.03, and they went down once as well. They're now nice and snappy though!

The forums are generally slow and the layout is awful!

I've got the latest versions of Safari, IE, Firefox, and Opera installed (and the stable versions of Firefox and Opera). I think I might even have Flock. So call it an informed choice (Firefox 3 looks promising though).

With regards to the forums, like Fumikaa, I've found them to have speed up considerably lately, although to counter that, I've been plauged by several bugs lately. Where's IP.Board, Burning Board or phpBB when you need them?

It is more likely that Stardock refused to pay protection money to some Internet extortion group. The company that I work for gets threats like that about once every third month.

I find the layout good and only since the v1.03 patch was released (time reference) has the site slowed down. What I do hate is the white text on a black background, it kills my eyes if i read it too much.

Yes, it is screwed up. In one of my threads, my last two posts have a line in the middle of the words just like underlined but in the middle of the words...
