Graphics - Opaque Planets

suggestions?

Hey, Today I just purchased and downloaded v 1.03 from stardock, and there is something wrong with the graphics.  The planets look like etched glass, they are very opaque, almost invisible.  I've tried changing resolution and detail to no effect.  I am using XP with a GForce 8600 GTS, everythings above the games requirements.

Any suggestions?  I'm sure the game works OK as it is, but since I've had to hold out this long, what's a bit longer to see the game at full potential!  But not too long hopefully! (:

Cheers

I noticed this same effect when the game was installed on my rather old laptop (4 years old)... Same settings between my laptop and my main computer but the planets were rendered differently.
my best bet is that it may have something to do with the graphics card and or gfx drivers not being able to render the planet properly. Check to make sure you meet the games min requirements.

If you are running the game on a computer that meets the basic requirements then check to make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date or the best possible version for your computer (some older drivers work better). Sorry to say if it is the drivers the only way to tell what works best is experimenting for yourself.

hope this helps...

hey, sounds like a graphics card driver issue

The problem fixed itself somehow, I set the redundant 1.03 patch on it, and somehow now I have planets? thanks

Ok I been messing with the texture files and the format did change on me it seems so maybe this was your problem.

i used to name A planet like this.

PlanetTerran01-cl.dds

Now I need to name them

PlanetTerran01-cl

and if I were to add the .dds part like i used to I will get just the blue glossy sphere.

This happens to me sometimes if i load the game while it's minimized.

Reloading it would always fix it.

By the way, "very opaque" would mean "very impenetrable by light."
Opaque is the opposite of transparent.

Very opaque planets would be working as intended.
