How do I use an icon within a dll file?

Hi

Using ObjectDock Plus v 1.90.026 on Windows Vista 32 bit.I have created a dock entry to switch user and wish to assign it an icon from C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll

Alas, when I try to change the properties of the dock entry I can not find out how to assign an icon in imagers.dll

Can this be done?

At current OD does not support importing image files/icons from within Dll files. I would look around in the Docks library for one that, may be what your looking for. Heres is the docks library already sorted out by the word Vista. See if theres any thing you might like . https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=29&search=vista

Have fun :)

You can also use Resource Hacker to pull icons and such out of a .dll or .exe file. You can download it HERE

FYI, be careful with it, after you pull the images out close the file without saving it. So it doesn't cause any issues. Also I'll mention that you might run into some size issues, usually the images that are inside .dll's and .exe's are not 128x128 or 256x256.

icon developer - file > batch processing > extract icons from collections to a folder

i browsed to system32\shell32.dll and dropped copies of the 239 icons into a folder on my desktop

Thanks for all the info on extracting the icons from a dll file, the icon developer batch processing was a very quick way to do it  :)
