Naming AI opponents in Solo game

Is there a way to name the opponents in a single player game against the AI? 

I figured out how to rename the Capital ships (which I almost always do now).

 I noticed the names of the AI opponents vary.  What I am looking for is a way to pick the name.  Say I want to play a game where all the AI and the human player are of the same race in a cival war for control of the empire and want to give each AI opponent certain faction names.  For the human player I can make a new player and choose to use that one for the game.  Would I be required to mod the game to give the AI unique player chosen names?

I like to RP games some times and it adds depth and gives the AI a identity if I pick their name.
