I bought the program this morning and installed it a little while ago. I had not installed a demo or any previous version of WindowBlinds, before this. I downloaded a skin and clicked "Apply Changes", but the skin never applied. WindowBlinds just removed the wallpaper and reverted the taskbar and all window borders to the "Windows Classic" style. So I uninstalled and re-installed WindowBlinds and then tried to apply the skin again, but just got the same result. It has yet to actually apply a skin that I selected and click "apply changes" with. Why is this?

Not the first time, but after I uninstalled it, I rebooted. Then I rebooted after each of the next 3 re-installations. WB wasn't able to apply a skin after any of them. Just continually back to "Windows Classic".

this was a standalone download and install via web browser, yes?

you have nview turned on?

This was a standalone download only. A web browser was not involved in the installation process. I'm not sure if nview is running. I don't see an nview.exe in task manager or on any of my hard drives. Before re-installing, I had every nvidia process disabled except for NvCpl.exe. Does that one also need to be disabled?

Alright, I used msconfig to disable "Nvidia Display Driver Service", rebooted, and finally the skin I'd applied actually displayed. So just to make sure everthing had a good clean foundation, I uninstalled WindowBlinds, rebooted, re-installed it, and rebooted again. And now again the same disfunction is happening. WITH Nvidia Display Driver Service still disabled. Try to apply a skin and after several minutes you are presented with "Windows Classic" style taskbar and window borders. Select a different skin and click "apply changes", and WindowBlinds exhibits no response whatsoever. Anyone find a solution to this problem yet?

A web browser was not involved in the installation process.
End of quote

by the web browser I might standard click a link to download and install - as when browsing anywhere on the web

got no idea on NvCpl.exe - I've had no trouble with nvidia so = just saw a few posts mentioning it and turning off nview seemed to work

try uninstalling, reboot, download --> https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/ = register your serial(s) in it and use it to download/install

I had to completely disable nVidia Manager in services.msc to get WB to work. Fortunately, between the last update for WB and the last update for nVidia drivers, I don't have to do that now. You might want to give it a try tho. Don't go through msconfig, use services.msc instead. That might help, but no guarantees.......

Well "Nvidia Display Driver Service" is the only Nvidia related item in services.msc and, as I mentioned before, its been disabled. I did what Bichur suggested and uninstalled WB, rebooted, installed Stardock Central, rebooted, registered and installed WB through SDC, rebooted again and... WB still cannot apply one little GUI skin. After $20 forked over and hours spent researching and jumping through hoop after hoop. Ridiculous. Thank you for the many responses and troubleshooting suggestions, but I'm through throwing away time on WB. As it happens, going out on a limb for this software was just a bad decision.

I have the same problem as mentioned. The only thing that changes when I apply a skin is the wallpaper. I can go into my display properties - appearance and change the Windows and buttons to Windows XP style but after applying the skin, it defaults back to Windows Classic. Any other ideas?

Nevermind. I'm just gonna stick with normal themes. This is proving to be way too frustrating and time consuming.

Good luck to everyone who has this issue, hope you get it fixed. =]

I downloaded a program called MaxClear v3.1 and it told me to modify some files related to transparency. I'm starting to wonder if that is the reason why I'm having that same issue....

Do you remember installing something similar prior to WindowBlinds?????
