Bottlenecks?

What is the typical bottle neck of this game? I have a

E6600
2gb memory
2900 xt 1GB card.

Running on Vista 32.

CPU usage seems to stay pretty low, but memory stays around 95%

The game runs great until I try to zoom in on a battle, or a lot of action of some sort on the screen. Then it hangs for about 10 seconds or so, and continues to run great. To me to looks like it is running out of memory and is having to pull it off a hard drive cache when I zoom in. How much memory do you guys find this game needs to run optimally?

I have 2Gb RAM and I experience the same lag issue as you do when the fleets are very large and I zoom-in.

My CPU is an Opteron (dual core) 165 running at 2.6GHz and I have a 7900GT video card.

I agree it seems to be a RAM issue more than CPU. I'm not sure more RAM would improve performance or not in WinXP (which I use).

I don't know either.. 32 bit applications have a maximum memory reservation of 2gb I believe.

Hmm, I have a similar system:

E6600 Conroe
7900GT
XP Pro
2gigs of Ram

On super massive battles, when i zoom in all the way at max video settings, i have very slight, most of the time the video lag isnt noticeable at all.

Strange, maybe it's a vista issue then.

I have the same problem (v1.03), when two large fleets meet my game will completely stop for 10-20 seconds. At this point I can still move the cursor but the game will not respond to any clicks.

I think the problem is caused by special abilities as I only seem to have the problem when both fleets contain multiple capital ships. I have also noticed that the hard drive light is not "on" when this happens so it is not a swap condition.

I have reduced video settings to the lowest possible settings and disabled AA, no change.

At this point, SoE is unplayable for me.

My System Specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
2GB of RAM DDR2 800
Geforce 7600GS
SATAII Hard Drive
Edit: OS for gaming is Windows XP SP2 as there is no Linux version available.

I have a 2Ghz Dual core with 4 GB RAM and 256 MB Graphics card.

The game lags when there are lots going on as well. I even try to tone down the settings but to no avail. Not sure whether it CPU or graphics. I only get 4-8 fps when there are a few players with huge fleets. Hence I usually play medium maps since on bigger maps, my game experience drops. Anything I can do to imrpove this ?

try to use as few save spots as possible, it seems that the more you add on the slower it gets. im getting a infodump message from my computer when i try to load games.
