Game Slows Down When I Open The Research Screen

Whenever I open up the research screen the game slows down to a snails pace. After mousing over something to research it takes about 20 seconds or so for the tooltip to show up and after I click it takes about another 20 seconds for it to acknowledge the command. I run the game's graphics at pretty much the lowest settings.

1.8ghz

512mb RAM

RADEON 9800pro (128MB

Windows XP

 

Any sort of insight as to why it does that would be neat.

At a guess, it's because you're swapping a bunch of stuff out of RAM when you do that. If you've any comfort level with it at all, I highly suggest you upgrade to at least 1 GB of RAM.

Wow a 9800pro - I used to love that card, kinda makes me happy you're punishing it so with sins. But yes, get another 512mb Ram chip. After that you can maybe think about getting a vid-card with 256+mb of RAM, but I think you'll be alright.
