Mods showing in game?

I know this is probably suppossed to be in the mods section, but for some reason I can't create a post there. I downloaded the "Unit Cap Mod" from "https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=14&libid=71" , and when I use it, the totals don't change in the research tree. Now is this normal? Or should it tell me that the totals for upgrade level X is the modded level? I am ust curious, as I want to use the 10,000 unit cap, so I can actually play a game with over 200 planets with a few buddies

I would think it should. Take a look at the fleet research entity files in the mod, it's pretty clear there how the increase goes, so you can see if it's changed or not :P

What should I open them with? If I try notepad or wordpad, all I get is jibberish

I guess the modder converted them back to binary :P Try hovering over the last research subject, maybe he was lazy and just did it so the last one increases it the whole way instead of spreading it out among all of them.

Otherwise, try playing it and see if it actually does or doesn't, but I don't see why the research wouldn't update with the new modded numbers if it's done properly.

I even tried modding the files myself, and no dice. You are right, its not hard. Just change the modifier from 1 to 2, and that increases the Capital Ship by 2 for that level. But it doesn't work or show up in the game.

I used the files from the mod tools as they are txt.

Any ideas?

I got it all working, so its all good. The mod Iw as using was either incomplete or not compatible with 1.02
