I give up

I traded my copy of the game back to the store for $10 in store credit. I enjoyed the little I was able to play but the game is just too buggy. Obviously this game was not tested on a WIN98 machine. (Yeah, believe it or not some of us can’t afford to get a new computer every year or two!)

I think the main problem is that the focus is on graphics rather than content. I would rather see a less graphic intensive game that had more to it.

Maybe its just me. I have played this sort of games since President Elect back in 1988. I was excited that there were going to be so many new election games this year. So far they have all been disappointing. This one is buggy and cartoonish, President Forever is just silly, and Power Politics III looks like a rehash of the Doonesbury Election Game.

I am fairly certain Mushmouth that Stardock have stated in previous posts that among there test machines they have at least one setup running Win98. It is nearly impossible to test a game on every hardware/software setup. Stardock I am sure has been as thorough as they can using the various test machines they have in house.
Political Machine is a new step for Stardock in that it is the first game by them which incorporates some genuine 3D driven graphics. Frogboy has said already that this has caused many issues with the need for a relatively recent graphics card which can handle modern drivers and the type of calls made to the card.

In this type of situation all Stardock can really do once they have eliminated any problems which they discovered in house is rely on feedback from users. From what I have seen Stardock is responding to users requests and the issues which have arisen as fast as they can. Certainly it may have been a mistake to run this out to retail as soon as they did, however I would also suggest that you will be well rewarded by keeping the game for a time yet and seeing what Stardock make of it. They always develop there titles through support periods, and Polmachine being a first for Stardock means that they are learning lessons from it's release and mechanics as well as seeking to make it a better product.

Stick in there Mushmouth.

No, don't stick in there. I'm glad you traded your game back in so I don't have to read your whiny posts anymore. It's a fun game, no game is perfect, you should design your own damn game if none of these other efforts satisfy you.

Cheers.
