Alpha 5 preview

Well I have good news and I have bad news.

The good news is that it looks like we're going to be at E3 this year (I can't say more than that right now). E3 is a big video game trade show where all the hottest new games will be shown.

The bad news is that since we are going to be there, more effort is going to have to be put in early to make the game more visually impressive at the expense of features. The result is that we're going to have to move the beta back until AFTER E3.

However, we're going to releaswe an alpha 5 in the first week of May with an expanded list of people playing it so that we can keep getting fresh viewpoints on the game. Even the current build is quite a bit nicer than the existing ones.

The multithreaded AI should be in alpha 5 btw (it won't be very powerful but it lays the ground work for being able to do all sorts of advanced AI techniques). The current build's AI is very challenging when played at higher levels.

Good luck at E3, Brad!

And for those that want to know the dates for E3, it's May 22-24 in LA Convention Center and not open to the general public..

The exhibitors-list looks very impressive.

Hmmm...This is on the MOO site about E3:

Since several folks have emailed asking about the upcoming E3 show I was asked to make an official statement. The short version is that we don't know yet if we'll be showing behind closed doors at the Infogrames booth or not. It looks like we will be showing behind closed doors at the MacSoft booth. It's also a fair bet that we won't be showing on the main show floor, simply because we're in the middle of making lots of changes on the game and space on the floor is pretty tight. We'll let you know when we have more information.

That's too bad. I'd really like to see MOO3. MOO is one of my favorite gmaes of all time.

If we're at E3, it'll be privately shown, not on the show floor (it is a pain to assign someone to man a booth for 4 days, 10 hours a day playing the game).
