I don't know if this is what you're expecting (let me know):
When I click Random for a race, something should appear to tell me it "took".
When I clicked on my scout inside my system list, my view screen turned solid gray, no details. I forget how, but I could get back to the normal view, just couldn't get the scout to come out and play.
When I buy a ship, there is a screen to choose who builds it, bastards of various kinds or Microsoft. There is no indication when I click on one that it has "taken".
Not sure you want to use such markers (Microsoft, bastards, whatever) for game names even in an alpha. Does it mean game technical development is racing ahead of the story? As in, you haven't chosen the real names yet? I'd recommend Company A, B, etc. then.
