Fleet bonuses???

Earlier during the beta I believe there was discussion about bonuses for fleets. I seem to remember something about a "Flagship" or leader ship that you could build to enhance a fleet. Different "Flagships" would allow different bonuses to the stack, sort of like identifying what type of stack it is(scout- sensor range bonus, escort- def bonus, attack- att. bonus, strike- speed/att bonus...ect.) I really, really liked this idea. Is it still in the works???

Anyone else remember this, and/or would anyone else be interested in something like this??

I wasn't in the beta, but I'm reasonably sure it isn't in the game now... and yes, it sounds quite interesting. :)

The flagship is their Survey ship.

Just wanted to bring this up again. (See first post)

The thread dropped of the page rather rapidly. Maybe no one is interested in the idea? :(

It would be nice to see a response from Stardock on the matter. ;)

that would be really good....i really wish that something with fleet combat could be put in....doesn't Civ3 even have armies (and it is something that has to be researched or earned, right?)

maybe somewhere along the tech tree, the opportunity to build fleets, or to "upgrade" a particular ship to admiral status or something....

I don't know...but i think that is one of the VERY few things that is lacking in this game...

Love the flagship idea. Would the A.I. be able to utilize it? Would it be easy to adjust the A.I. so it could? Not sure. Anyone have any thoughts? If the A.I. can't easily be made to handle it it's probably a non-starter.

The AI could be able to use flag ships in the same way it is using space base military modules.

Maybe, but aren't starbase bonus' much simpler? Just toss on a module and all ships in the sector always benefit. How does one decide which flagship goes with a mobile 'fleet', say a planetary invasion fleet? The defensive one--for survivability? The speed one--for elusiveness? Attack--to more quickly wipe out interceptors? It would depend, I suppose. The A.I. has to to be able to decide according to a dynamic situation.
Also, some players are reporting that the A.I. is none to bright about how it configures it starbases even now.
