Learn to read! And no...not good for you! ;) Bad attitudes like yours don't get you far on this site.

This was posted in a new thread.

If you are a current user of Object Dock Plus and are using the beta I would like to encourage you to get the current listed alpha through Impluse.

One of several issues that was considered is the Start Menu troubles.

The version number is 1.97k[a]a.024

Remember this is an alpha/beta build and is still use at your own risk. This update is only available through Impulse and for Plus owners.

If you don't have Impluse get it here: http://storage.stardock.com/files/Impulse_setup.exe

I'm afraid that you can't. Impulse is the only channel for this update at the time.

I don't have any sort of full list of bug fixes. Since I don't have the full list of what was changed I can't share "Maybes". Sorry for that.

What are these "substantial" bugs?

Let the dissection begin...*cracks fingers and rolls up sleeves*

1. Start menu isn't rendering properly (using Stardock's own orb)
2. Moving cursor in start menu without clicking causes temporary no-response in side docks.
3. [Request] Being able to display items from system tray in any tabbed or normal dock.
4. Saving/packaging a theme doesn't save images for system tray icons.
5. Doesn't display nVidia's icon for system tray
6. Timing out of Weather docklets
7. [Request] Flyout of weather docklets on mouseover in tabbed docks
8. Sometimes misreporting if Recycle Bin is empty or full
9. When deleting files from a portable USB HDD and using OD to empty the Bin and then trying to safely remove hardware after that fails because OD locks a process handle onto a file stored on the portable HDD.

Enough to get you started? Support admitted to me that those are definitely bugs and info was passed to developers. So far there's nothing, nada, zilch, 0. I'll be far happier if they released some fixes quicker, so I can see if they'd work or not. I don't fancy waiting several months for one huge truckload of fixes without knowing if they'd work or not.

P.S. The issues that I mentioned are the ones that are happening to me and do not necessarily apply to everyone who has OD installed. I use the latest beta and have Win XP SP2 installed, just FYI.

Damn iVAN WILDER!

I had no idea people were having "that" many problems with ODP. In light of your info I can understand your frustration and I hope they get to these problems as soon as they can so you can start to appreciate and enjoy ODP when it works as it should. The worst problem I have is having the cursor hide behind docks after playing a game. And I have the same as yourself as far as having WindowsXP SP2 installed...and it really sucks when you have the same thing as someone else but for whatever reason the same app doesn't work on it.

As far as your one problem with files or folders locking up...I've had that happen as well....not sure if its from ODP...but here's a handy little tool you can try out that might help... Unlocker

I think it was about time someone summed up their problems in one message so those people who keep on saying that they don't have any problems will see the other side of the coin

Yes, that's the utility I use to unlock the process handles. I know it has something to do with ODP and I'm willing to post screenshots to prove that if you want me to. Let's just say that on a XP SP2 machine with ODP installed it locks a process handle, but on a Vista SP1 without ODP it doesn't. Make of that what you will.

I've always been aware how people with the same setup can have different problems with the same software...who knows why...but I had no idea they would have that many. So I feel for ya bud...it would drive me nutz too.

As far as the lockups...really not sure whats causing that...I have the same problem...but not all the time. But hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

It's just it's been half a year since last update and that's a beta we're talking about, so the main release is further away into the past. ODP 1.95 has been mysterioulsy pulled from Stardock's "Coming Soon" section so I guess I shouldn't hold my breath. And please don't tell me that it's been pulled so next week you can surprise us all and announce ODP 2.0. Sure, I get it, in software nothing is certain and there's no way to tell when an update will be released and Stardock is in no way obliged to release updates. However, common sense dictates that 6 months is way too long, at the very least for betas.

Jeff B, to whom I send almost daily crash reports and who is the main dev (I assume) of OD, doesn't post here anymore about what's happening to OD and what's the status of bugs and likeliness of them being fixed. With all due respect to guys from support, but all we seem to get these days is "sorry for troubles" and "go back to the stable build" and statements along those lines. I'm not having a go at you, but since you're the guys on the inside then please put some pressure on the devs.

No, I don't expect things to happen overnight and I'm sure they are busy working on fixes and no, OD isn't the only project they have to work on. However, us common folk that bought the software are forced to just sit on the fence and hold our breath, not knowing anything about progress and not getting the feedback about bugs apart from "information has been passed on to the developers". No, Stardock doesn't revolve around me, but it does revolve around its customers and I just happen to fall into that group of people.

Just like Zubas said on the 1st page of this thread "...what they bought to work 100%. I think that's their right to expect and get that...". Well right now we aren't even being told if the next update, whenever that will be, will make sure of that and there's no 2-way relationship between beta testers and developers to make sure that statement by Zubas is correct. Such a shame...

probably illegal but is there going to be any cool floor reflection leopard docks with this?

To make my point even bolder, I did some digging.

It's a little ironic that in a month and 2 days it will be exactly a year since the latest update (1.9) to ODP has been made. In stark contrast, people who are WindowBlinds users last year not only got 2 significant updates (5.5 and 5.51) but also a couple of betas of WindowBlinds 6, not to mention much hyped-over release of a stable WindowBlinds 6. What did ODP users get within almost a year? A couple of betas and that's all. What astounds me even more is that it has taken little over 5 months for ODP to go from 1.5 to 1.9. However, it seems to be taking ODP almost 250% of that time to go from 1.9 to.....nothing yet.

So forgive for feeling left out and cheesed off about the state of affairs, but, having paid the same amount for my ODP license as someone who would pay for their WindowBlinds license, I feel that it's outrageous that I'm being treated differently in terms of updates/bugfixes.
