pirates are 18th century gay

good god!

First off, this is not a complaint, this is just a question!

this has happened to me a lot more than once...is this familiar to anybody?

so you're sitting there, chilling, almost completely defenceless, when suddenly a full pirate fleet comes out of hyperspace near your totally defenceless world and blows it straight to hell.

i have heard that there are ways to turn the pirates of in multiplayer, but that they dont work. does anybody have a fullproof method for taking out pirates?

thanks

i would suggest to not sit there completely defenceless first off. defenceless is never a good thing. I found pirates were easy to defend against if you have a small contingent of fighters at the base at all times was a good deterrent, somethings were lost but i was alwyas able to fight them off relatively easily, its just annoying really.

Place bounty on another player...and make sure you opponents don't outbid you :)

Pirates are great in MP maps. Make lots and lots of credits and send them after your opponents. It's fun and rewarding! ;)

And never leave a planet undefended, build active and passive defenses as quickly as you can reasonably accomplish it. It slows them down long enough for your fleet(s) to arrive and put the hurt out.

Or let them come to you and get some free xp :D

If you feel that your capital ship is in danger of getting destroyed build a repair station and make sure the cap ship is near some turrets as well ;)

a) Homosexuality is not an insult

b) There is PLENTY of warning with regard to pirate attacks: text warnings, audio warnings, big flashing red lights, etc

c) Being defenceless means you're screwed anyway

d) Creating custom maps with no pirates is incredibly easy

e) Some pirate-free maps are included with the patch

Except to the person using it as such...

To clarify what I just said, I meant he was insulting himself :D

Ugh..The theory of relativity. No reason to get all political and hang someone on words. Take it with some salt and put your razors and lime juice away.

Yeah, no need. If I get called a kike, or if someone post a thread saying "TEC are money-grubbing bignosed jews" then I'm clearly overreacting! Why can't I just drop my marxist-leninist political correctness and just accept that people talk that way! It's not their fault they're stupid, it's their culture!

I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
It's lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no I'm a rocket man

I mean, that alone should answer a lot of questions about the space-navies...

Because it's the internet. It doesn't exist for you to not get offended, and I'm pretty sure the ability to take shit and dish it back out as well as have a modicum of a spine and thick skin became fairly mandatory about 8 years ago.

People say a lot of shit that they don't actually mean. It's TEXT. He didn't exactly put a burning cross in your front yard or put a horse's head on your front step now did he?

Yeah it's the internet, we need more ignorant hate-speech from twelve yearolds! They say shit they don't mean, and that's totally okay! :CONGRAT:

The funny thing is, you and the people like you need to do a lot more growing up than anyone else.

The fact that you interpreted that as "ignorant hate-speech" makes you look like an idiot.

Being mature doesn't necessarily mean being a pathetic wuss who wants to give teddy bears to communists.

Who ever you are, kade shadow, you just made my "awesome" peoples list for subtly making fun of Ron.

I'm still trying to find what's so unobjectionable about changing the meaning of a word that meant "joyous" to "a male who has sex with males"...

In my most recent game with pirates, the end result was that all of the cash I squandered to bribe the pirates into attacking my enemy merely financed the practical combat training of my enemy's capital ship crews. Bleargh....

"Pirates are gay." This is hate mongering no matter what excuses some of you make. If you want to discuss the game, then discuss the game. If you want to slam other people because of their life style then toddle over to the Aryan Nations site or Rush Limbaugh and have your juvenile fun. Let's just enjoy a great game here without the hate crimes.

that's nothing. faggot used to mean 'a bundle of sticks' and now its an extremely strong slur, as opposed to gay, which is really only an insult because of peoples' prejudices, not because of any actual intrinsic quality of the term. So let's just all grow up and grow a thicker skin.

Referring to a group of people in a derogatory manner, as the OP did in his title, is offensive and ignorant hate speech.

What's next? Will you defend "Pirates are Canadian" when that turns up as the next forum post title? Give me a break.

Caring about the rights of others = being pathetic wuss. You learn something new every day.

I could point out that nobody has suggested anything at all beyond 'use gay as an insult = you're a moron'. Damn, we need to grow up!

Also, changing meanings of words means it's totally okay to go around calling people faggots, and this isn't hate-speech at all!

So far we have 'internet = okay to say whatever you want and cry if anyone complains', 'be a tough guy and ignore juvenile usage of hateful language' and 'if a word was ever used for anything else ever it's totally okay to use it all the time and complain if anyone gets offended'. But hey, this forum taught me I should dump my girlfriend so I can play a game all day instead of bang her, so clearly I have a lot to learn.

gay...

merry: full of light-heartedness and merriment (dated)
carefree: having or showing a carefree spirit (dated)
debauched: leading a debauched or dissolute life (dated)

[13th century. < Old French gai "happy"]

Yup, pirates are indeed "gay"... :)
