AI type needed

So for the AI there is Research, Aggressor, Fortifier, and random. Now here is where I am confused. Does the random option just randomly assign one of the three types to the AI or is it sort of the Balanced option. Because if its not, in another update somewhere along the line there should be a Balanced AI characteristic.
It would be like having the AI switch from various characteristics at various times. (AI starts out as Fortifier and does what ever a Fortifier would normally do then switches to one of the other characteristics for a while then switches to another.

when i just played i hit random thinking the computer would be balanced but it ended up seeming like more of an aggressor, attacking me quickly and consitantly

Hmm I would think that Random would choose between the choices that you yourself can pick from, just like setting the enemey's race Random.

Random assigns one of the types ;)

From a technical standpoint, it would probably be very hard/near impossible to switch AI types mid-game, unless you mean just a generic balanced AI that does a bit of everything?

I'm about to make many assumptions so dont blame me if im wrong, but..

Judging solely from the data in the Gameplay.Constants file creating a "balanced" AI should be very easy, as ostensibly the only difference between the AI's is a series of weighted values, so you could just change said values so that it didnt value one thing over another. That said it would mean that the AI changing tactics midgame should be doable aswell if\when we get scripting.
